What Erin Ziering said about co-parenting
Married Biography reported that Erin spoke with Adriana Costa on Local Now about explaining the separation to the children and approaching co-parenting. Erin said she tried to be honest and to make space for the girls to talk about their emotions:
“When it comes to the girls, I really try to be honest with them about everything and have open conversations. Since they were babies, I focused on talking to them about their emotions, what they’re feeling.”
She also described checking in with them at night about school, how they were feeling, and whether they had questions about what was happening between their parents:

“[Every night] we have conversations about what’s going on, what was said at school, how are you feeling, do you have any questions about what’s going on between Mom and Dad? ‘Cause there’s a lot of transitions that I’m going through, and I can only imagine what these little girls are going through at the same time.”
Erin said the prospect of no longer being with her children all the time had initially frightened her. She described each step of letting them spend time with their father as becoming easier as she came to trust that they would be okay:

“I was with my kids 24/7 and the idea of not having them 24/7 was terrifying — completely terrifying. Each little step of letting them go and spend time with their dad has been easier and easier, because I know I’ve raised them and they’re gonna be okay.”

What Ian and Erin said when they announced their split
Erin filed for divorce in Los Angeles on November 5, 2019, according to Entertainment Tonight’s report the following day. Ian said they had grown apart and expressed hope that they would continue to get along, protect and raise their daughters, and be examples of successful co-parents. He also praised Erin as “one of the most incredible women I have ever met and the best mom to our kids.”
Entertainment Tonight also reproduced Erin’s statement that Ian had asked for a divorce multiple times and that she and the girls were rebuilding. Those statements reflect what the two said publicly at the time; they do not establish their current family arrangements.

What later reports do—and do not—show
Us Weekly reported in December 2019 that both parents attended a family birthday event. That is a dated public sighting, not evidence of their private day-to-day relationship or a custody arrangement.
In April 2024, Ian told Fox News Digital that he and his ex-wife hoped their daughters would make good decisions. Speaking about their exposure to media and online content, he said, “I can put it into context, and I think that’s where I’ll do the best I can.” He was discussing how to help them understand media, not providing an update on custody or the family’s current routine.
