It paired ticketed live performances inside the theatre with free public festivities in Liberty Laneway. The event has ended; the City of Perth lists a redevelopment that includes refurbishing the theatre, but its current project information does not establish a reopening date or confirm that visitors can enter now.
What was Liberty Alive?
Otherside Brewing Co presented Liberty Alive with Crafted Events, with support from a state CBD activation grant initiative. The festival ran Thursdays to Saturdays from 5pm until late, using three spaces: Liberty Theatre, Liberty Laneway and Liberty Lounge. Selected theatre performances were ticketed through Moshtix, while the rear laneway hosted free public activities.

The event was promoted as a return to life for the theatre and rear laneway after 25 years. PerthNow’s opening-day report named Methyl Ethel’s Precent I, Jaguar Jonze, Mama Kin Spender, WAAPA Gospel Choir and Old Blood among the performers.
What could visitors see and do?
Ticketed performances inside the theatre
Selected live music shows took place inside Liberty Theatre and required tickets. The programme included the named acts reported by PerthNow; the available event coverage does not establish a complete performance schedule.

Free festivities in Liberty Laneway
The laneway programme was free and included bars, DJs, street art, local food and family festivities. It offered a separate way to take part without attending a ticketed theatre show.
What did the festival support?
In a retrospective account on its Tapped page, organiser Otherside Brewing Co said Liberty Alive brought “thousands” to the venue, supported 22 live music acts and supported 10 visual artists. “Thousands” is the organiser’s description, not an independently audited attendance count.

Why is the theatre significant?
In Otherside’s 19 October 2022 event announcement, Al Taylor, CEO of Triple-1-Three, said: “The Liberty Theatre was Perth’s first art house cinema when it opened in 1954.” This is an attributed statement by the event presenter, not by itself an independent heritage determination.

A City of Perth applications-lodged report for 17–23 December 2025 records an application at 77–85 Barrack Street that includes a new shopfront to suit “Liberty Alive Foyer” and reactivation of an internal stair into Liberty Alive. An application record is not confirmation that the work was completed or that the theatre is open to visitors. The sources cited here therefore do not establish current public access.
