Cassie Ventura accused Sean “Diddy” Combs of years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, including rape, sex trafficking and coercion into sexual encounters with male sex workers. She also alleged drug-related coercion and control over her personal and professional life. Combs denied the allegations through his attorney. The civil case settled one day after Ventura filed it; the settlement was not a court finding on the claims.
What Cassie alleged in her lawsuit
Ventura, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, filed a civil complaint against Combs in federal court in New York on November 16, 2023. The complaint described nearly a decade of alleged physical, sexual and emotional abuse. These were claims made by Ventura in a lawsuit, not findings by a court. The Los Angeles Times reported on the complaint.
Alleged abuse and rape
Ventura alleged that Combs physically attacked and injured her. She also alleged that he raped her at her home after she tried to leave the relationship. The complaint characterized the relationship as involving a prolonged pattern of abuse and coercion.
Alleged coerced sexual encounters
Ventura alleged that Combs pressured or forced her to have sex with male sex workers while he watched and filmed. The complaint reportedly referred to these encounters as “freak offs” and alleged that some lasted multiple days. That phrase and the alleged events are descriptions in the complaint, not independently established facts.

Alleged drug-related coercion and control
Ventura also alleged that Combs introduced her to excessive alcohol and substance use and required her to obtain illicit prescriptions to satisfy his alleged addictions. She said his control extended to her personal and professional life.
How Combs responded and what the settlement means
Combs denied Ventura’s allegations through his attorney, Ben Brafman. The parties announced a settlement on November 17, 2023, one day after the complaint was filed. Contemporary reports said the terms were not disclosed. No court ruling on the truth of the allegations resulted from the settlement, and the cited accounts do not establish a specific payment.

Ventura said she had decided to resolve the matter “amicably on terms that I have some level of control.” Combs said, “We have decided to resolve this matter amicably. I wish Cassie and her family all the best. Love.” Brafman said that settling a lawsuit “is in no way an admission of wrongdoing.” The Los Angeles Times reported the statements and settlement.

Ventura’s complaint described an incident in March 2016 at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, in which she said Combs attacked her as she tried to leave. CNN released surveillance video of the hotel incident on May 17, 2024. The Los Angeles Times described footage showing Combs chasing, kicking and dragging Ventura and throwing a vase. The video is consistent with the physical attack described in the complaint, but it documents that incident; it does not independently prove the lawsuit’s other allegations. The Los Angeles Times reported on the footage and its context.

In its May 17, 2024 report, the Los Angeles Times quoted the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office as saying that, if the conduct occurred in 2016, it was beyond the timeline for prosecution of an assault. The office also said law enforcement had not presented a case related to that attack as of that date. That was a statement about the reported incident at that time, not a general conclusion about the present legal status of every allegation.
