Dave Grohl confirmed on September 10, 2024, that he had fathered a daughter “born outside my marriage.” In a statement shared on Instagram, the Foo Fighters frontman said he intended to be a loving and supportive parent to the child, while also saying he loved his wife and children and was working to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. He did not identify the child’s mother or reveal the baby’s name.
Nearly two years later, Grohl offered a limited update. In a March 20, 2026 interview with The Guardian, he said he had attended therapy six days a week for 70 weeks—more than 430 sessions—and described the process as ongoing. He did not say whether his marriage had been repaired, whether he and Jordyn Blum had separated, or whether his family had forgiven him.
What Dave Grohl announced in 2024
Grohl’s statement was brief and carefully worded. As CBS News reported, he wrote that he had “recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage.” He added that he planned to be a loving and supportive parent to her.

Grohl also addressed his existing family, saying that he loved his wife and children and was doing everything he could to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. The statement did not explain the circumstances of the birth, specify when the relationship occurred, or identify the child’s mother.
Grohl has been married to Jordyn Blum since 2003. The couple have three daughters together: Violet, Harper, and Ophelia. Those details were reported by CBS News and ABC News in coverage of the announcement. The public statement established the existence of Grohl’s new daughter, but not the private arrangements surrounding her care or relationship with the rest of the family.
What Grohl said about therapy in 2026
In his first newspaper interview after the disclosure, according to The Guardian, Grohl said he had gone to therapy six days a week for 70 weeks. That amounts to more than 430 sessions. He said the work required him to stop, sit with himself, and reevaluate who he was.

Grohl discussed personal accountability in broad terms, but he did not describe the specific issues being addressed in therapy. When asked whether he had regained his wife and family’s trust, he did not give a direct answer. Instead, he pointed the interviewer toward lyrics from forthcoming Foo Fighters material.
That distinction matters: attending therapy and speaking about self-examination are confirmed facts, but they do not prove that the marriage has been restored or that the family’s private conflict has been resolved. The Guardian interview leaves the family’s ultimate decision undisclosed.
What remains unknown
As of August 12, 2026, authoritative reporting has not established:

- the identity of the child’s mother;
- the child’s name;

- financial arrangements;
- whether Grohl and Blum are still together;
- whether the couple have separated or divorced; or
- whether Blum or Grohl’s children have accepted, rejected, or forgiven him.
Grohl’s original phrase was “born outside my marriage.” Later coverage has described the situation as infidelity, but responsible reporting should not add unsupported details about the relationship’s length, timing, or circumstances. Social-media posts, viral photographs, anonymous claims, and tabloid speculation are not confirmation of parentage or marital status.
Why the family details should be handled carefully
The announcement concerns a public figure, but it also involves children and people who have not chosen to make their private lives public. The verified record supports mentioning that Grohl has three daughters with Blum because it explains the family context of his own statement. It does not justify identifying an unconfirmed mother or treating the children’s lives as entertainment news.
Similarly, the fact that Grohl discussed therapy does not make the details of his family’s response public. His comments show that he has described an effort at personal change; they do not provide evidence of a particular outcome at home.

Career context: Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and new music
Grohl is best known as the frontman of Foo Fighters and as the former drummer of Nirvana. His 2026 interview also placed the personal disclosure alongside discussion of grief after the deaths of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022 and Grohl’s mother, Virginia, as well as the band’s forthcoming 12th album, Your Favorite Toy.
Those career and music developments provide context for the interview, but they should not be presented as evidence about Grohl’s marriage or family arrangements. The music is public; the family’s private response remains largely private.
