The clearest scene the stars teased before The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol premiered was Daryl and Carol finding each other again. In September 2024, Melissa McBride and Norman Reedus described the reunion and its buildup as a central draw, grounded in the characters’ long friendship—not as a sudden new connection. Their interviews also pointed to grief, unresolved conversations and Carol’s inner struggles. These were cast expectations, not a ranked audience poll; the six-episode season premiered in the United States on September 29, 2024.
The reunion was the clearest scene the stars anticipated
In a TVLine interview published September 24, 2024, McBride said the story made clear that Daryl and Carol would find each other: “It’s not holding anything back about the fact that these two are going to find each other.” Reedus called the buildup “awesome.” Those comments made the reunion the most explicit pre-premiere event the leads invited viewers to anticipate.
The appeal, as both actors framed it, came from the history between the characters. Reedus said they largely pick up where they left off; McBride stressed that their relationship had been earned over time. That makes the reunion more than a meeting between familiar characters: it brings a long-standing friendship back into the foreground after the pair’s separate experiences.
Supporting actor Romain Levi echoed the anticipation in a September 27, 2024 cast interview, saying, “I think, I won’t spoil anything if I say that they will see each other, you know, they will be back together. And this is magical. This is very beautiful there.” His remark reinforces how strongly the cast associated the season with their return to one another, though it is not evidence of a measured audience ranking.

What the season’s emotional stories promised
Carol revisits difficult experiences
AMC’s June 6, 2024 season announcement set up Carol’s search for Daryl alongside his uncertainty about staying in France, as Genet’s movement approached conflict with the Union of Hope. It also said both leads would confront old demons. In an AMC Talk interview published October 7, 2024, McBride discussed Carol’s internal struggles and revisiting material important to the character. Together, the official premise and McBride’s comments pointed toward a reunion shaped by what the characters had endured, rather than a simple return to the past.
Grief and the things left unsaid
At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, McBride said the season would deal with “the repercussions of loss” and with unspoken matters that had not been discussed in the original series. Reedus described the two leads’ return together as an opportunity to explore parts of their stories that the larger ensemble had not made room for: “Because it’s just the two of us from that originally large cast, it gives us the opportunity to tell different parts of stories we didn’t get to,” he told TheWrap.

That points to intimate character work as well as reunion drama: the consequences of loss and the effect of past events on people who may not have had the chance to talk about them. McBride put the season’s emotional focus this way: “Deal with things, deal with the repercussions of loss and things like that. Things that just — unspoken things nobody had conversations about, and how everything that they’ve been through really affects them.”
Daryl and Isabelle’s connection stayed uncertain
Reedus also addressed Daryl’s connection with Isabelle in the TVLine interview. He said Isabelle had shown Daryl her authentic self and that this mattered to him, while emphasizing that Daryl did not know what he was doing romantically. That is a tease of emotional uncertainty, not a promise that the characters would become a couple.

What the supporting cast highlighted
In the same pre-premiere cast interview, actors Anne Charrier, Romain Levi, Eriq Ebouaney and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi spoke about Carol’s return and the reunion, the season’s hopeful message, and filming in French locations including the Louvre, Mont-Saint-Michel and Pont du Gard. Ebouaney described the message he took from the season as: “And I think for me, the message, the main message is don’t give up the hope.” These comments broadened the pre-premiere picture beyond the central reunion, but they do not identify a ranked set of individual scenes.

The phrase describes the emphasis in cast interviews, not a documented audience poll. The interviews and AMC’s season announcement do not establish a percentage, ballot result or ranked list of the season’s most anticipated scenes. The reunion is the strongest answer because the lead actors discussed it directly and the supporting cast echoed its importance; grief, Carol’s inner arc and Daryl’s uncertain connection with Isabelle were additional story elements the cast flagged before the season aired.
