There is no single nationwide PBS channel on DIRECTV. DIRECTV carries local PBS member stations, so the number depends on your service address, market and product. Enter your ZIP code in the DIRECTV Channel Lineup, select your county when prompted, and search for PBS or your local station’s call sign.
Find your PBS channel in under a minute
- Open the DIRECTV Channel Lineup.
- Enter the ZIP code tied to your DIRECTV service address.
- Select the county if DIRECTV asks for it, then choose Update location or search the lineup.
- Search for PBS and, if necessary, the station call sign shown for your area.
- Tune to the listed channel. If several PBS services appear, choose the station serving your local market.
This location-based listing is more reliable than a national channel number or an old city chart.
Why the PBS number changes by city
PBS is a national public-television network delivered through independent local member stations. Each station has its own call sign and broadcast identity, and DIRECTV maps the station or stations serving your service address into its local lineup. A market can therefore have a primary PBS station plus another public-television service, while a nearby ZIP code may receive a different lineup.

New York, Washington, D.C./Maryland and other markets should be checked by ZIP code because the applicable station and channel can vary within the region. DIRECTV’s live lineup should be treated as the final authority; the 2024 guide is a dated quick reference.
Satellite DIRECTV versus DIRECTV STREAM
Do not assume that a satellite channel number also applies to DIRECTV STREAM. PBS announced that DIRECTV STREAM completed a rollout of nearly 250 local PBS stations in 2022, but station availability still depends on the streaming service’s location rules and ZIP code. Check the lineup for the exact DIRECTV product you use.

Is PBS included in every DIRECTV package?
DIRECTV says local channels, including PBS where carried, are included in every package where available. That qualification matters: local-station eligibility depends on your service address, market and DIRECTV availability. It does not guarantee PBS in every ZIP code.
What to do when PBS is missing
- Verify that the account ZIP code and service address are correct.
- Check the online lineup, searching both “PBS” and the local station call sign.
- Look for a secondary PBS or public-television service if the program is not on the primary station.
- Refresh or restart the receiver, or sign out and back in to the DIRECTV STREAM app.
- Confirm that you are checking the correct satellite or streaming lineup.
- Check DIRECTV’s TVPromise service-interruption information for a temporary local-station dispute or contract issue.
- If the station is not carried, try its PBS livestream, an antenna or another live-TV service.
Travelers should also note that local-channel access can follow the registered home location or app location settings rather than the city they are visiting.

Ways to watch PBS without DIRECTV
PBS.org and the PBS app
Many videos are available free, and a local station livestream may be available where rights permit. The PBS live-streaming FAQ explains local and program restrictions.
PBS Passport
Passport is an expanded on-demand benefit for eligible donors to participating stations. It is not a universal live replacement for a DIRECTV local channel, and contribution requirements vary by station. See PBS’s viewing and Passport guidance.

Amazon Prime Video PBS channels

Choose the option that fits your viewing
- Only need occasional PBS: Try PBS.org, the PBS app or an antenna before paying for a full live-TV package.
- Want PBS with many live networks: Compare DIRECTV STREAM or YouTube TV using your ZIP code.
- Already have DIRECTV: Check the official lineup before changing plans or equipment.
- Want a larger on-demand catalog: Ask your local station about Passport.
- Use Prime Video: Check whether the newly introduced PBS channels are available in your account.
For current DIRECTV package information, including location-dependent local-channel availability, see DIRECTV’s packages page. Do not choose a paid DIRECTV service solely for PBS unless you also want its broader live-TV lineup.
