Callum Kerr and his sister Amanda asked for privacy as they grieved, then later objected to their mother’s memory being tied to funeral arrangements for Andrew Searle. Their public statements came as the investigative account shifted from an initially open inquiry to a reported prosecutorial assessment of murder followed by suicide. That assessment was not a court verdict.

What happened to Dawn Kerr and Andrew Searle?

Dawn Kerr, also reported as Dawn Searle, and her husband Andrew Searle were found dead at their home in Les Pesquiès, near Villefranche-de-Rouergue in France’s Aveyron region, on February 6, 2025. The Guardian reported that they were discovered at about 12:30 p.m. The Guardian’s initial report identified Callum Kerr as Dawn’s son.

How did Callum Kerr and his family respond?

The first appeal for privacy

In a statement reported on February 8, the family said they were grieving and asked the media to respect their privacy. The request came while investigators had not publicly settled how the deaths occurred.

The August statement about funeral arrangements

On August 20, 2025, Callum Kerr and his sister Amanda asked that their mother not be included in funeral arrangements for Searle. They also asked friends not to share photographs of Dawn with Searle. As reported by LBC, they said that association was inappropriate given the circumstances and the continuing official investigation.

Their statement said: “It would be inappropriate for her memory to be associated with a service honouring the man who, based on all available evidence, may have been responsible for her death.” The wording was qualified: it conveyed the family’s understanding of the available evidence, not a court finding.

How did the public investigative account change?

February: investigators said all hypotheses remained open

In the early account, prosecutor Nicolas Rigot-Muller said both deaths were violent but that he could not establish that either was homicide. “All hypotheses remain open,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian on February 8. A February 11 report likewise described the inquiry as open to multiple possibilities: The Connexion.

April: a later reported assessment

On April 3, The Guardian reported that prosecutor Fabrice Belargent said investigators had found no evidence of third-party involvement and were treating the deaths as a murder followed by suicide. This was a later reported investigative assessment, distinct from Rigot-Muller’s initial statement that the circumstances were not yet established.

What details did the family describe?

In the August statement, the family described murder-suicide as the prevailing hypothesis in the absence of evidence of third-party involvement. LBC reported that the statement said Dawn had been killed by multiple blows to the head and Searle had been found dead by hanging. These details are attributable to the family’s statement as reported by LBC; they should not be recast as a judicial determination.

What is established—and what is not?

The public record described here contains an initial prosecutorial account that left all hypotheses open, a later reported assessment that investigators found no evidence of third-party involvement, and the family’s August account of that prevailing hypothesis. The sources do not establish a court judgment or a later formal closure of the case. The family’s appeal should therefore be understood as a response to grief and to the information available to them, not as proof of a legally adjudicated finding.
