Callum Turner has been described as a “red-hot favourite” for James Bond because of bookmaker odds—not because Amazon MGM has confirmed his casting. Coral’s reported 7-4 price was a November 2025 snapshot; a separate Oddschecker report listed Turner at 11/10 on 12 August 2026. Neither establishes who will play Bond.
What “red-hot favourite” means
“Favourite” is betting-market language: it identifies the contender with the shortest odds in a particular market at a particular time. It is not an audition result, a studio announcement or a reliable measure of the chance that an actor will be cast. Odds can move as betting activity and market opinion change.

The Standard reported on 28 November 2025 that Coral had shortened Turner’s odds from 5-2 to 7-4 over the preceding 24 hours. Coral spokesman John Hill said the bookmaker had been “knocked over with support.” The same report cautioned that casting was not confirmed. The Standard’s report is a dated account of Coral’s market, not evidence of a decision by Amazon MGM.
How the reported odds changed over time
Later coverage offered a different snapshot. On 16 April 2026, the Associated Press described the casting process as secretive and named Turner, Jacob Elordi and Aaron Taylor-Johnson among the actors favored by oddsmakers. On 12 August 2026, Oddschecker listed Turner at 11/10 and called the market fluid. These reports show that Turner remained prominent in betting coverage, but they do not show that the same bookmaker, market or set of odds was being compared.

Has Amazon announced the next James Bond?
No casting announcement is established by the reports cited here. The Associated Press described the process as secretive and noted the shift of creative control to Amazon MGM, while reporting names favored by oddsmakers. What the odds do—and do not—tell you
- They do tell you where a named bookmaker or odds-market publisher placed a contender at the time of its report.
- They do not tell you that an actor has been offered the role, accepted it, reached a final shortlist or is more likely than not to win it.
- They do not establish why the odds moved. The Standard linked the 2025 movement to betting support; its suggestion that Turner’s engagement to Dua Lipa contributed was the outlet’s interpretation, not demonstrated causation.
- They do not settle the current market. Oddschecker’s 11/10 figure belongs to its 12 August 2026 snapshot, not a verified live quote for 8 October 2026.
What Turner has said publicly
Coverage has attributed comments to Turner saying he knew as much as the public and would not comment on whether he was interested if offered the role. The available wording was reproduced in a Reddit repost rather than verified here against The Hollywood Reporter’s original interview, so it is not presented as a direct quotation. In any case, those remarks do not confirm an offer or casting decision.
