What did Blake Lively accuse Justin Baldoni of?
Lively filed a complaint with California’s Civil Rights Department on December 20, 2024, alleging sexual harassment during production of It Ends With Us and retaliation through a smear campaign. She filed a federal lawsuit on December 31, 2024. The Associated Press reported that her complaint described a plan involving online message boards, social-media activity and critical news stories.
The complaint stated: “To safeguard against the risk of Ms. Lively ever revealing the truth about Mr. Baldoni, the BaldoniWayfarer team created, planted, amplified, and boosted content designed to eviscerate Ms. Lively’s credibility.” It also alleged that the team used similar techniques to bolster Baldoni’s credibility and suppress negative content about him. What does “eviscerate her credibility” mean in the complaint?
In context, the phrase describes Lively’s allegation that content was planted or amplified to make the public less likely to believe her if she spoke about on-set concerns. The complaint alleged a coordinated effort across online discussion, social platforms and news coverage; the phrase is the complaint’s characterization of the alleged purpose, not a court’s conclusion.

How did Baldoni’s representatives respond?
Bryan Freedman, the attorney for Baldoni, Wayfarer Studios and their representatives, called the allegations “completely false, outrageous and intentionally salacious.” He said Wayfarer hired a crisis manager in response to demands and threats that Lively allegedly made during production. What happened to the lawsuit?
The case’s later outcomes are distinct from the original allegations. A judge dismissed Lively’s sexual-harassment claims, ruling she could not bring them under federal law because she was an independent contractor rather than an employee. Certain retaliation claims against Baldoni’s public-relations team had been allowed to proceed. On May 4, 2026, the parties announced a settlement, avoiding trial. The parties’ joint statement said: “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard. We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments.”

In September 2026, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman awarded Lively $363,245 in attorneys’ fees and $44,206 in costs after she had sought $8 million. The Associated Press reported that the award covered legal work defending against defamation claims under California law. It is separate from the settlement, whose terms have not been disclosed.
