Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

A practical H.264 starting point is 14 Mbps at 1080p30, or 8 Mbps at 720p30 if you need a lower-bandwidth option. If your encoder supports AV1 or H.265, YouTube’s recommendations for those formats are lower. Leave upload headroom, configure the encoder correctly and test the actual loop before relying on it.
Recommended YouTube live bitrates by resolution and codec
The following are YouTube Help’s recommended live-ingestion bitrates; the page does not display a publication year. Choose the column matching the codec you actually send. These figures describe the encoder’s feed to YouTube, not the bitrate a viewer will receive after YouTube transcodes the stream.
| Resolution and frame rate | AV1 or H.265 | H.264 |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 15 Mbps | 21 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 24 Mbps | 34 Mbps |
| 2160p30 (4K) | 30 Mbps | 42 Mbps |
| 2160p60 (4K) | 35 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
YouTube also publishes minimums, which are not the recommended targets. At 1080p30, the minimum is 4 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 5 Mbps for H.264; at 1080p60, it is 4 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 6 Mbps for H.264. Use the recommended value when your encoder and sustained connection can support it.
How to choose a bitrate for your loop
1. Match the source and viewing goal
Set the output resolution and frame rate to suit the uploaded video and the detail viewers need. A mostly static documentary image or a source recorded at 30 fps does not automatically benefit from a 60 fps stream. For a limited-motion loop, 1080p30 or 720p30 can be sensible formats to evaluate. This is a practical application of YouTube’s table, not a special rule for loop streams.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Match the bitrate to the codec and format
Once you have chosen a resolution and frame rate, use the corresponding table entry for your codec. For example, 1080p30 calls for 14 Mbps with H.264 or 10 Mbps with AV1/H.265 in YouTube’s recommendations. Do not apply a bitrate from one codec column to another codec’s settings.
3. Allow for audio and upload headroom
YouTube says total streaming bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% room. Plan for the total stream bitrate, including audio, rather than treating the video bitrate as the whole connection requirement. If you send both primary and backup feeds, YouTube’s guidance says to account for primary plus backup plus the recommended headroom. A speed-test peak does not establish that your connection can sustain the stream continuously.

4. Test the real loop
Before depending on a continuous stream, test the actual source, movement, audio, encoder and network. YouTube advises testing with audio and video movement similar to what you will stream, then checking the Live Control Room preview and stream health. It does not specify a test duration that proves a loop will run reliably for 24 hours or longer.
Encoder and audio settings that matter
- Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS for live streaming and recommends RTMPS.
- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1. Use the bitrate recommendation for the codec you select.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as specified in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube’s stated maximum is four seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Pick the rate that suits the source rather than assuming a loop needs 60 fps.
- Stereo audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, at 128 kbps.
- 5.1 audio: YouTube lists AAC at 48 kHz and 384 kbps; 5.1 surround over RTMP/RTMPS is supported only with AAC.
- SDR color: YouTube lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth.
These are live-stream settings. Do not substitute YouTube’s recommended bitrates for uploading a finished video; live ingestion and video uploads have separate guidance.

Keep a 24/7 stream stable
Bitrate cannot compensate for an unreliable connection. YouTube recommends testing upload speed, leaving roughly 20% headroom and accounting for bandwidth used by other people and devices on the connection. It warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. A wired connection can be a practical choice for a fixed encoder, but YouTube’s cited guidance does not require Ethernet or specify a cable category.
- Set up the stream ahead of time and check that it is accessible.
- Preview the feed before starting, then monitor audio, video and stream health while it runs.
- If you record a local archive, check that the file is intact.
- If you configure a backup encoder, test failover rather than assuming it will work.
YouTube lets you reuse stream settings and create a custom stream key. The key carries the destination and credential information used by the encoder, so keep it private. Latency, DVR and auto-start/auto-stop are separate operating choices, not bitrate settings. YouTube notes that lower latency may increase playback buffering and matters less when the streamer is not interacting with viewers.

Troubleshooting bitrate and stream-health problems
- Connection drops or stream interruptions: The planned total bitrate may exceed sustained upload capacity, or the connection may be disrupted. Recheck upload performance under normal household or office usage, reduce the stream format or bitrate to a supported recommendation, and leave the suggested headroom.
- Unstable stream health despite a fast speed test: A peak result may not reflect sustained capacity, especially when other devices share the connection. Test during representative usage and monitor the live feed rather than relying only on a single speed-test number.
- Settings rejected or output quality problems: Confirm resolution, frame rate and codec, then use the matching table entry. Check that rate control is CBR and the keyframe interval is two seconds, within YouTube’s four-second maximum.
- Audio is missing or unsuitable: Check that the encoder uses a listed audio format and sample rate: AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz for stereo, or AAC at 48 kHz for 5.1.
- Backup does not take over: Test the configured encoder failover before depending on it; YouTube’s operational guidance recommends testing backup encoders.
