He then named countries in the Americas, including the United States and Canada. Those are the clearest English-language words documented in the closing, but available reporting does not establish that they were literally his first and only English words in the entire performance.
What Bad Bunny said
The closing sequence, reported by the Associated Press and the NFL, was:
- “God Bless America.”
- A roll call of countries in the Americas, including the United States and Canada.
The NFL’s Spanish-language recap says the show ended with Bad Bunny saying “God Bless America” and listing all the countries that make up the continent. The recap links to the complete performance, but neither source provides a formal, word-by-word transcript.
Why “first and only English words” needs a qualification
AP described “God Bless America” as among Bad Bunny’s “first and few English-language words.” That wording does not claim an exhaustive count. The ending also contains bilingual material, and country names can be counted differently depending on whether the count includes proper names, repeated words, or words embedded in songs and announcements.

For that reason, the evidence supports saying that the closing phrase and the country names were his most clearly documented English-language words—not that a complete transcript proves they were the only English words he spoke.
The messages built into the performance
| Element | Wording or detail | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| Spoken closing | “God Bless America” | Reported by AP and the NFL as the show’s closing phrase. |
| Country roll call | Countries in the Americas, including the United States and Canada | AP identifies those examples; the NFL says he listed all countries composing the continent. |
| Football inscription | “Together, we are America” | Reported by AP on the football Bad Bunny held. |
| Screen message | “The only thing more powerful than hate is love” | Reported by AP as text shown during the performance. |
Why he listed countries across the Americas
The roll call made “America” broader than a synonym for the United States. AP interpreted it as a reminder that America can refer to countries throughout the Western Hemisphere, not just one nation. That is the reporter’s interpretation of the gesture, not a published statement from Bad Bunny explaining his private intent.

Petra Rivera-Rideau, an associate professor of American studies at Wellesley College and co-author of P FKN R, described the moment as “a really profound statement of Latino belonging in the United States and immigrant belonging in the United States.” She also said the performance invited people into Bad Bunny’s world while making the case that immigrants and Latinos are part of the fabric of the United States.
That context mattered because the halftime appearance had been politicized before it took place. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens, while Bad Bunny’s Spanish-language performance and the continental country roll call challenged the assumption that “American” identity has to be expressed only in English or reduced to the United States.

What the performance’s language says about the moment
Bad Bunny’s album Debí Tirar Más Fotos was an all-Spanish-language release that AP reported had won the 2026 Grammy for Album of the Year. Before the game, he said, “You always have to be proud of who you are and where you’re from. But don’t let that limit where you can go.” That pre-show comment expresses a general view about culture and ambition; it is not a direct explanation of the halftime ending.
Seen together, the spoken phrase, the country names and the onstage text formed a bilingual, hemispheric message. The documented facts are the words and visuals themselves. The meaning assigned to them—unity, Latino belonging and immigrant inclusion—comes from AP’s framing and Rivera-Rideau’s analysis.

A quote that should not be attributed to Bad Bunny
Forbes’ article matching the original headline was updated after a quotation was found to be misattributed and retracted. The sentence beginning “English is not my first language…” should therefore not be presented as something Bad Bunny said. The reliable closing quote is “God Bless America,” followed by the country roll call.
Bottom line on the headline
Yes, Bad Bunny said “God Bless America” at the end of the Super Bowl LX halftime show and followed it with names of countries in the Americas. Calling those words his “first and only” English words goes beyond what the available reporting proves; “first and few,” or “the clearest English words documented,” is more precise.
