What is the tourbillon record claim?
The central feature is a double triple-axis tourbillon: two tourbillon mechanisms whose cages rotate on three axes. Blass wrote that Purnell was “holding the record of the fastest rotating double triple-axis tourbillon in the world.” That wording reflects the 2021 article’s claim; the evidence available here does not establish that it remains a current world record or independently verify it.
How the Escape II is described
According to the 2021 article, the watch uses Purnell’s hand-wound CP03 caliber, co-developed with watchmaker Eric Coudray. The article reports 386 components, 67 jewels and a 32-hour power reserve. It describes six mainsprings assembled in four barrels arranged in parallel, and titanium “spherion” cages rotating in eight seconds for the inner cage, 16 seconds for the secondary cage and 30 seconds for the outer cage. The 2021 article gives a base price of CHF 430,000. That is a historical figure reported by Time+Tide, not a verified current price or valuation; the publication’s headline also used a dollar conversion that should not be treated as a present-day market price. Blass also reported that Usher was not a paid Purnell brand ambassador and characterized the watches as organically acquired. That is the article’s reporting from 2021, not an independently verified statement.
