The official English trailer for COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing is hosted by GKIDS, the North American distributor, on its film page and on its YouTube channel. The film is the first animated feature based on the mobile game Project SEKAI / HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE!, which is the sense in which it is the “first” Miku movie of its kind. Hatsune Miku has appeared in earlier concert films, so the more accurate claim is that this is the franchise’s first animated theatrical feature.

What the movie is about
The studio’s own synopsis, published on the P.A.WORKS English film page at https://www.pa-works.jp/works_en/colorful-stage-the-movie-a-miku-who-cant-sing/, reads: “Ichika is a high school musician who can enter a mysterious place called ‘SEKAI,’ where she and her friends express their innermost emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku.” (Speaker: P.A.WORKS, in its official film synopsis.)
The plot turns on a Miku who is not the one fans know. Ichika meets a new Miku who struggles to connect with listeners through song and needs help finding a way to sing again. The title, which translates as A Miku Who Can’t Sing, refers to that situation.
