Chevrolet’s 2023 holiday film, A Holiday to Remember, is a tear-jerker about a granddaughter finding a way to connect with her grandmother, who is living with Alzheimer’s. The more-than-five-minute story follows them on a drive through places from the grandmother’s past in a blue 1972 Chevrolet Suburban, with John Denver’s “Sunshine On My Shoulders” on the soundtrack. It is a fictional brand story, not evidence that a drive or familiar song can treat Alzheimer’s.
What happens in Chevrolet’s holiday ad
The film opens at a family Christmas gathering. The grandfather tells his daughter that some days his wife does not recognize him. Their granddaughter overhears and takes her grandmother out for a drive in the family’s blue 1972 Chevrolet Suburban.
They revisit places tied to the grandmother’s life, including her childhood home, school and a drive-in. As “Sunshine On My Shoulders” plays, the journey leads to a moment of recognition and connection in the ad’s story. The film’s emotional center is the granddaughter’s effort to make the day meaningful for her grandmother and family.
Which Chevrolet vehicle appears?
The long film features a vintage 1972 Chevrolet Suburban. There is also a separately cataloged 60-second TV spot: iSpot lists “A Holiday to Remember [T1],” published November 23, 2023, and its product field says Chevrolet Tahoe. That database entry describes the shorter spot; it should not be confused with the Suburban featured in the full story. iSpot’s 60-second spot listing

Why the film feels so affecting
The story builds its emotion through family relationships, familiar places and music rather than through a product pitch. The drive links locations from the grandmother’s past, while Denver’s song provides a recognizable sensory cue. Contemporary coverage described emotional viewer reactions, but no reliable, attributable campaign-response statistic is established here; a view count would not by itself show how audiences broadly responded.
What the ad does—and does not—say about Alzheimer’s
The Alzheimer’s Association was identified in contemporary coverage as a partner in the campaign. That establishes the association’s participation in the campaign, not an endorsement of every implication a viewer might draw from the drama. Deseret News coverage of the campaign

The moment of recognition belongs to the film’s narrative. It should not be taken as a dependable clinical effect of revisiting old places, riding in a familiar vehicle or hearing a particular song.
