The schedule changed in stages. A PC Gamer scheduling report described an earlier move from October 24, 2025 to May 15, 2026. The May 15 date in that report differs from the May 8 date now listed by the official site.
| Schedule stage | Date | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Originally reported release | October 24, 2025 | Reported by PC Gamer as the earlier date. |
| Reported rescheduled release | May 15, 2026 | PC Gamer’s account of the move. |
| Current official listing | May 8, 2026 in North America; May 6 internationally | Dates listed on the official movie site; the North American listing specifies theaters and IMAX. |
Was the delay caused by Superman’s success?
That causal claim is not established by the available reporting. PC Gamer discussed the summer release window as a potential way to gain audience attention and box-office opportunity, but its report does not prove that Superman’s performance prompted the move. No primary explanation from Warner Bros. or the filmmakers for the schedule change is identified in these sources.

How successful was Superman?
Superman opened in the United States and Canada with $122 million in ticket sales over its opening weekend, according to studio estimates reported by The Associated Press. That figure gives context for the claim about the film’s success; it does not show why Mortal Kombat II was rescheduled.
DC’s September 2025 announcement characterized the film as having “quickly flew to the top of the box office, driven by stellar reviews and excellent word of mouth.” That is DC’s description of its film, not a statement about Mortal Kombat II’s release plan. DC’s official release listing gave July 11, 2025 for US nationwide theaters and IMAX, with international release beginning July 9.
