Warner Music Group and AI music company Udio announced a settlement on November 19, 2025, resolving their copyright litigation and setting a framework for a licensed music-creation service planned for 2026. The announcement described a future collaboration—not a court ruling on the lawsuit’s allegations—and did not disclose financial terms or name participating artists. The 2026 target does not establish whether the service has launched or is available now.
What Warner Music and Udio agreed to
Warner Music Group (WMG) said the agreement resolves its litigation with Udio and establishes a framework for developing a licensed music-creation service. WMG characterized the planned platform as a next-generation service for music creation, listening, and discovery, to be developed in collaboration with artists and songwriters. The companies announced a 2026 target, but their announcement did not confirm a launch date or current availability. WMG’s announcement
Udio’s partnership FAQ described proposed tools for creating remixes, covers, and new songs with the voices and styles of artists who choose to participate. These were intentions for the planned service, not confirmation that those features are available. The FAQ also referred to transition terms set on October 29, 2025; that historical statement should not be taken as a description of Udio’s current terms.
What the settlement does—and does not—establish
The agreement ended the Warner-Udio dispute, but it was a settlement, not a judicial decision about whether Udio’s conduct infringed copyright. The public materials reviewed do not disclose a payment amount or provide the detailed financial and licensing terms. They also do not identify artists participating in the planned service. TechCrunch’s contemporaneous report and the Los Angeles Times report covered the settlement announcement.

WMG CEO Robert Kyncl said, “We’re unwaveringly committed to the protection of the rights of our artists and songwriters, and Udio has taken meaningful steps to ensure that the music on its service will be authorized and licensed.” That is Kyncl’s characterization in WMG’s announcement, not an independent finding about how the planned service will operate.
How Warner’s deal differs from Udio’s earlier Universal agreement
Universal Music Group (UMG) announced a separate settlement and licensing arrangement with Udio on October 29, 2025, before Warner’s announcement. UMG said its agreements covered recorded music and publishing and would support a commercial music creation, consumption, and streaming experience. Those disclosures describe UMG’s arrangement; they do not reveal Warner’s financial or licensing terms. UMG’s announcement
