In 2024, the Gold Industry Group West Australian Netball League (WANL) entered a coverage arrangement with Seven West Media’s Streamer platform. The launch announcement promised selected WANL matches live and free from the Gold Netball Centre, giving supporters a new digital way to follow state-level and emerging netball talent.
The agreement was reported by PerthNow on March 8, 2024. “Landmark” was the publication’s framing; the available reporting does not establish that the deal was the league’s first or largest streaming agreement.
What the 2024 Streamer partnership was
The arrangement was a digital streaming and distribution partnership, not a confirmed free-to-air television broadcast. Streamer, a Seven West Media platform, was to carry WANL matches live and free during the 2024 season.

The stated or implied purpose was greater exposure for Western Australia’s grassroots and emerging players: supporters could watch more of the competition, while athletes on the pathway to elite netball could perform before a larger audience.
What viewers were advertised
The opening double-header
- Rangers v Western Roar — scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
- Southside Demons v Fremantle Sharks — following the first match.
Both games were listed as Open-division fixtures from the Gold Netball Centre. The source did not give a separate start time for the second match.
Two matches at launch, broader wording later
The launch article described two matches being broadcast. Later West Australian coverage promoted WANL as available “live, free and on demand,” and another report said every game was available live and on demand through Streamer. Those statements may reflect an expanded arrangement or different promotional wording, but the published material does not explain the difference. They should not be treated as one identical, fully documented schedule.

How to interpret “live and free”
For the 2024 season, Streamer was the advertised viewing platform and the launch promise was free live access. Later coverage also referred to on-demand viewing. The reports do not establish whether an account was required, which devices or apps were supported, whether geographic restrictions applied, or how long replays remained online.
This is historical information. As of August 2026, the 2024 arrangement does not by itself prove that Streamer still carries WANL matches or that its old replay library remains available.
The three WANL divisions and the 2024 changes
Open, men’s and 21/U
The competition comprised the Open division, a men’s division and a youth pathway division. The previous under-20 competition was adjusted to a 21-and-under format in 2024, commonly written as 21/U.

The change was presented as giving older developing athletes another season to consolidate skills in a development-league environment. A new men’s division team was another structural change highlighted at the season launch.
Players who gave the coverage a pathway angle
The launch report connected the league with athletes who had elite experience or links to West Coast Fever programs. The named players were:
- Emma Cosh, identified as a West Coast Fever premiership player.
- Ashlee Unie, described as a former Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning defender.
- Zoe Cransberg, Emma Putt, Emily Cramond and Grace Jooste, identified as Fever training partners.
Streaming could make this pathway easier for supporters, scouts and families to follow. The available reporting supports visibility as a benefit; it does not show that the deal directly caused selections, contracts, recruitment or higher participation.

Teams and early-season storylines
Hamersley Comets set the benchmark
Hamersley Comets entered 2024 as defending champions in both the Open and former 20-and-under competitions, after winning those 2023 titles. They were therefore an immediate reference point for the new season.
Western Roar’s three-division start
Western Roar was highlighted as an Open-division challenger and arrived with a new men’s team and a 21/U side. Its men’s grand-final MVP coach, Dylan McPherson, was also identified in the launch coverage.
By April 30, The West Australian reported that Western Roar’s Open, men’s and 21/U teams were all undefeated, while Hamersley Comets remained a leading title contender. In a later rematch, Roar defeated Comets, moved to top spot and remained the only undefeated team at that stage.

Other clubs in the launch picture
The season coverage also identified Rangers, Southside Demons, Fremantle Sharks, West Coast Warriors, Souwest Jets and Peel Lightning. The opening Streamer double-header placed Rangers, Roar, Demons and Sharks at the centre of the first advertised broadcast.
Why the agreement mattered
- Lower-cost access: the launch announcement promoted live viewing without a paid sports subscription.
- Discoverability: a state competition gained a place on a mainstream digital platform rather than relying only on attendance or local coverage.
- Pathway visibility: viewers could track athletes linked to West Coast Fever and other high-level programs.
- Convenience: later reporting added on-demand language, which could help supporters who missed a live match.
- Potentially wider competition exposure: the launch said matches could come from any of the three divisions, even though it did not guarantee complete coverage.
What the public announcement did not disclose
The reports did not publish the agreement’s length, financial value, audience targets, exclusivity terms, total match allocation, production responsibilities or exact weekly schedule. They also did not provide audience figures or measured evidence that the partnership increased participation, sponsorship, recruitment or progression into elite teams.
For that reason, the strongest defensible conclusion is about access and visibility—not a quantified commercial or sporting impact. The word “landmark” should remain attributed to the launch framing rather than treated as an independently verified ranking.

The 2024 Streamer–WANL agreement’s clearest achievement was making selected West Australian Netball League matches easier to find and watch, free and digitally. It increased the competition’s visibility at a useful point in the player pathway, but public reporting does not quantify its audience, commercial value or long-term effect—and current availability should not be assumed from the 2024 announcements.
