The Perth WA Day Festival planned for June 2024 was cancelled because of severe weather, then rescheduled to Sunday, 24 November, at Burswood Park. That free-entry event—not the cancelled June program—was the year’s Perth festival. Separate regional and museum celebrations took place in June.
How the June festival became a November event
The original plan was a free, two-day festival at Burswood Park on 2 and 3 June, with music, rides, food trucks, a drone show and fireworks. Severe weather led to its cancellation. The Western Australian Museum confirmed the cancellation, and the WA Government later announced that the government and Celebrate WA would stage the Perth festival later in the year. The replacement event was announced on 1 November 2024.
The festival ultimately took place at Burswood Park on Sunday, 24 November. It was a separate event from the regional celebrations held in June. The same date also fell on the third day of the West Test Summer Fest outside Optus Stadium; that was a distinct event, not part of the WA Day Festival.
What visitors saw at Burswood Park
Live music
Eskimo Joe headlined the November program. The Government of Western Australia’s announcement named Great Gable, Noah Dillon, Maatakitj, Angie Colman and Anna Schneider, with the local music bill curated by RTRFM. Celebrate WA’s retrospective also mentions San Cisco and RTRFM DJs. The Premier described the event as “a free day of top-quality WA music to celebrate”; that was his promotional description in the government announcement, not an independent assessment.

Family attractions, food and the evening finale
The announced program included carnival rides, food trucks and other family attractions. Celebrate WA’s retrospective described additional free rides and interactive activities. As evening fell, more than 500 drones depicted stories of Western Australia before fireworks. Celebrate WA’s annual report separately counted 500 drones used for shows in Perth, Karratha, Newman and Port Hedland; that statewide figure should not be read as a Burswood-only count.
Celebrate WA’s 2024/25 annual report also recorded more than 100 food trucks across WA Day activities statewide and mentioned the Blasta BBQ, Smoke and Brews station. The report did not establish that all those trucks—or that station—were at Burswood.

What the festival cost and how transport worked
The WA Government announced free entry to the 24 November festival and free public transport across the network that Sunday. Those were conditions for the 2024 event, not current travel or admission information.
June celebrations were separate from the Perth festival
Although the June Burswood program was cancelled, separate WA Day activities went ahead at regional venues and museums. The Western Australian Museum listed programming at Albany, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Carnarvon and other locations. Albany’s Museum of the Great Southern, for example, had a Welcome to Country, children’s entertainment, Aboriginal tool-making demonstrations, arts and crafts, music, science activities and community stalls. Celebrate WA’s 2024/25 annual report counted eight regional events, from Albany to Port Hedland, and reported more than 37,000 attendees across them.

Fremantle: family activities at the WA Shipwrecks Museum
On 3 June, the WA Shipwrecks Museum offered free family activities from noon to 4pm, including making a black swan mask and colouring Nyoongar Barna animals and WA emblems. Entertainment around Fishing Boat Harbour ran from 11am to 5pm. The museum described itself as fully accessible and advised visitors needing assistance to call. These details applied to the June 2024 program, not the November Burswood festival.

Celebrate WA’s 2024/25 annual report recorded 110,000 attendees at the 24 November WA Day Festival and more than 37,000 attendees across eight regional events. These are organizer-reported figures; they were not independently verified in the cited material. The report also recorded more than $7 million in public-relations value across regional events, awards and metro events. That is a promotional-value measure, not visitor spending or economic impact.
