For a pre-recorded YouTube Live broadcast, XSplit Broadcaster has the clearer documented end-to-end route: it provides a YouTube output and lets you build a scene from sources, while XSplit also describes looping videos within a scene. VLC’s documented repeat and playlist-loop controls handle playback, but the available documentation does not establish a complete current VLC-to-YouTube Live workflow. Choose VLC for simple playback repetition; choose XSplit when you need a documented YouTube output and scene layout.
What each program does in this workflow
Looping a video and broadcasting it to YouTube Live are separate jobs. A media player can repeat a clip locally, but a live broadcast also needs an encoder or streaming application to send the video to YouTube using its stream destination and key.
- VLC: VideoLAN documentation describes repeating the current item or looping a playlist. That establishes playback-loop behavior, not a verified complete YouTube Live encoder workflow.
- XSplit Broadcaster: XSplit documents a YouTube Live output and a scene-and-source workflow. Its product information also describes looping images or videos within a scene, including for BRB screens or sponsor displays.
Those differences make XSplit the more clearly documented choice for putting a composed, looping scene on YouTube Live. They do not prove it is more reliable, easier to run for long periods, or lighter on system resources.
VLC vs XSplit: the practical differences
| Question | VLC | XSplit Broadcaster |
|---|---|---|
| Can it repeat video? | VideoLAN documents repeat-current-item and loop-playlist behavior. Menu names and controls vary by operating system and interface version. | XSplit describes looping images or videos within a scene. |
| Is a YouTube Live output documented? | Not established by the available VideoLAN documentation for this exact workflow. | Yes. XSplit provides an official YouTube Live setup guide. |
| Can you compose a scene? | Not established by the available documentation for this use. | XSplit’s guide describes scenes and sources used to compose stream output. |
| Connection method | Do not assume VLC itself accepts YouTube credentials or publishes the full live stream based on the documented loop controls. | A native YouTube output is documented. XSplit also documents custom RTMP for destinations without a dedicated output. |
| Reliability, sustained operation, or resource use | No comparative evidence established. | No comparative evidence established. |
Loop a pre-recorded video with VLC
Use VLC when the task is to repeat a clip or playlist in the player. The exact control labels and placement depend on your operating system and VLC interface version.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the video or playlist. For a sequence of videos, add the files to VLC’s playlist so the player has items to cycle through.
- Choose the loop behavior. Select repeat-current-item to keep one clip repeating, or loop-playlist to return to the beginning after the final playlist item. VideoLAN documents these as distinct behaviors; check the controls in your version rather than relying on a platform-specific menu path.
- Confirm playback locally. Let the clip reach its end and verify that the selected behavior does what you intend. This confirms local playback looping only; it does not establish that VLC is sending a YouTube Live broadcast.
If your goal is specifically to stream this playback to YouTube, use a documented encoder/output workflow rather than treating VLC’s repeat control as proof of a complete broadcast setup.
Set up a looping YouTube Live scene in XSplit
XSplit’s documented workflow combines scene composition with a YouTube output. Exact labels can change between software versions, so follow the current XSplit support guide for the interface currently installed.

- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Confirm channel eligibility first. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube Studio and confirm the channel can go live before scheduling a broadcast. XSplit’s setup guide also identifies channel verification and account restrictions as prerequisites; account status and platform rules can change.
- Create a scene and add the video source. In XSplit Broadcaster, use a scene to arrange the sources that will appear in the broadcast. Add the pre-recorded video source and configure its looping behavior in the scene as supported by the installed version.
- Set the YouTube output. Follow XSplit’s official Streaming to YouTube Live guide to connect the YouTube output and enter the broadcast details. XSplit documents a native YouTube output; use its current instructions for the setup fields and start controls.
- Start the broadcast and check the result. Use XSplit’s output controls to begin streaming, then confirm the live picture and audio in YouTube. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key when an encoder does not offer direct YouTube setup; XSplit also documents custom RTMP for destinations without a dedicated output. Do not share your stream key, and follow the current YouTube and XSplit instructions for any connection fields.
For YouTube’s general encoder workflow and stream URL/key guidance, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. YouTube describes encoder streaming as a way to share a screen or broadcast gameplay; that description is not an endorsement of VLC or XSplit.
Copyright and channel considerations
A video playing correctly in VLC or XSplit does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. Use material you own or are authorized to stream, and check YouTube’s current rules and any rights restrictions that apply to your content. A live broadcast can be affected by copyright claims or account restrictions, so confirm channel status before going live rather than assuming a successful software connection guarantees the stream can remain available.

Troubleshooting the common decision points
- The VLC clip stops at the end: check whether repeat-current-item or loop-playlist is selected; they are different modes. Interface details vary by platform and version.
- You can loop in VLC but cannot find a verified YouTube output path: VLC’s documented loop controls cover playback. They do not, by themselves, establish a complete YouTube Live encoder workflow. Use a streaming application with a documented YouTube output, such as XSplit’s guide.
- XSplit cannot start a YouTube broadcast: verify that live streaming is enabled for the channel, the account is not restricted, and the broadcast details and output connection follow XSplit’s current guide. First-time YouTube enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- The broadcast starts but the intended scene is absent: check the active XSplit scene and its sources, then verify the output in YouTube. XSplit’s scene-and-source model determines what is composed for the stream.
- You are deciding based on reliability or CPU load: the cited documentation does not provide comparative tests for reliability, sustained uptime, or resource use. Do not infer a winner on those grounds without testing your setup.
