Kookie Gulati’s 2024 Hindi crime thriller Visfot is worth watching if you want a fast, coincidence-driven story carried by its cast. It is a weaker choice if you need a fresh crime plot or a final act that pays off the build-up. This is a qualified yes, and it is based on what the film’s reviews describe, not on a consensus, because the critical response is sharply divided.
What the film is about
Visfot follows two families from very different economic worlds in Mumbai. Shoeb, played by Fardeen Khan, lives in the Dongri neighborhood. Akash, played by Riteish Deshmukh, lives a comfortable life in a high-rise. A missing child and a set of criminal complications pull their paths together. Priya Bapat and Krystle D’Souza also appear in the cast. Kookie Gulati directs.
Scroll and the Indian Express both identify the film as an official Hindi remake or based-on adaptation of the Venezuelan thriller Rock, Paper, Scissors (2012). Those reviews are the basis for that relationship, and the detail matters for expectations: the story’s architecture of chance encounters and escalating consequences is inherited from a film that was already built around them.
How the reviews split
Three contemporary reviews are the main critical evidence. They agree on the film’s energy and disagree almost entirely on whether that energy is enough.

- Factory sealed DVD
| Outlet and critic | Review date | Rating | Headline judgment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scroll | September 6, 2024 | Not stated | “Efficient and worthwhile thriller”; forward drive, tension and cast praised; class divide only lightly developed |
| Indian Express, Shubhra Gupta | Not stated | 1.5 out of 5 | Execution falls into familiar crime-film conventions; Seema Biswas as Acid Tai leaves a strong impression despite limited screen time |
| Free Press Journal, Troy Ribeiro | Not stated | 3.5 stars | Performances and first-half momentum praised; climax becomes formulaic and a late song interrupts the tension |
Three reviews are a small sample. They are not a representative audience survey, and no current aggregate score was established. Rotten Tomatoes showed zero critic reviews and zero audience ratings on the page checked, so it cannot be cited as a measure of opinion for this film.
Where the film works
The strongest point in every favorable review is momentum. Scroll credits the film’s forward drive and tension, and Free Press Journal says the first half holds the audience well. The coincidences that critics find contrived are also the engine of that drive: each new encounter raises the stakes for both families before the audience has time to question the mechanics.

The cast is the second reason to watch. Free Press Journal praises the performances, and Scroll lists the cast among the film’s assets. Indian Express singles out Seema Biswas as Acid Tai, noting that she makes a lasting impression in limited screen time, which is an unusual compliment to receive in a review that is otherwise dismissive.
Free Press Journal also highlights Resul Pookutty’s sound design, which is a useful signal for viewers who watch thrillers for atmosphere as much as plot.

Where it falls short
The main objection is familiarity. Shubhra Gupta’s review states the case directly: “The rest is been-there, seen-it, so what’s new.” Her complaint is not that the film fails to move; it is that the movement follows well-worn crime-film paths. Viewers who have watched many thrillers in this mold are the most likely to feel the same way.
The class divide is the film’s most obvious theme, and two reviews treat it as underdeveloped. Scroll notes that the divide is only lightly explored, which means the contrast between Dongri and the high-rise is more of a setup than a sustained argument.
The ending is the most divisive element. Free Press Journal calls the climax formulaic and says a late song breaks the tension just as it should be building. Because the film’s momentum is its strongest quality, a weaker final stretch has an outsized effect on how the whole film is remembered.

On the evidence of these reviews, Visfot is worth watching for pace, performances and atmosphere, and it is not worth watching for originality or a satisfying resolution. If you enjoy coincidence-heavy crime stories and can accept familiar beats, the first half alone will likely justify the running time. If you expect a surprising plot or a strong finish, the reviews suggest you will be disappointed.

Where to watch and what to check
- Release-period platform: Scroll and Free Press Journal both said the film was available on JioCinema at release in 2024.
- Current availability: A JustWatch listing for Egypt, checked on October 6, 2026, showed STARZPLAY as an option there. This is a single country’s listing and does not establish a current worldwide home for the film.
- Running time: Sources do not agree. Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb showed different running times for the film, so this article does not publish one. Check the running time on the platform where you plan to watch.

Reader questions this review answers
The most common search is “Is Visfot worth watching?” The short answer is the qualified yes above. Readers also search for “Visfot movie review” and “Is Visfot based on Rock, Paper, Scissors?” For the second, the reviews identify the film as a Hindi remake or based-on adaptation of the 2012 Venezuelan thriller.
The strongest case for the film is its drive, its cast and its sound, and the strongest case against it is its familiarity and its ending.
