The Rotten Tomatoes title page now lists it at 55% from 74 critic reviews, with a 45% audience score from more than 1,000 ratings. “Abysmal” was a headline’s judgment rather than a fixed measure. The numbers describe a mixed reception that has improved since the early report, and the early figure is the one that needs careful attribution.
What G20 is
G20 is a 2025 action thriller from Amazon MGM Studios and director Patricia Riggen. Viola Davis plays U.S. President Danielle Sutton. When the G20 summit comes under siege, Sutton becomes a target. The film runs 108 minutes (1 hour 48 minutes). Rotten Tomatoes classifies it as Action and Mystery & Thriller. Davis is also listed as a producer, alongside Andrew Lazar and Julius Tennon.

| Measure | Figure | Source and timing | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reported debut critics score | 33% | IMDb-hosted article, 2025 | The early figure reported at launch. No archived Rotten Tomatoes snapshot from launch is available to confirm it directly. |
| Current critics score (Tomatometer) | 55% from 74 reviews | Rotten Tomatoes title page, checked in 2026 | The live percentage of positive critic reviews at the time of checking. |
| Current audience score (Popcornmeter) | 45% from more than 1,000 ratings | Rotten Tomatoes title page, checked in 2026 | Viewer ratings, tracked separately from critic reviews. |
Rotten Tomatoes scores and review counts change as new reviews arrive. A film’s early percentage can rise or fall as more critics weigh in, which is why the launch figure and the present figure should not be treated as one rating.
How to read these percentages
- Percentage approval is not a quality grade. A 55% Tomatometer means about 55% of the counted critic reviews were positive. It does not describe how strongly critics felt.
- Review counts matter. A score built on 74 reviews can move noticeably as a few more reviews arrive. The audience figure is based on more than 1,000 ratings, which makes it more stable but reflects a different group.
- Critics and audiences often diverge. The gap between 55% from critics and 45% from audiences is typical for mainstream action films, where critics and general viewers often weigh story and pacing differently.
What critics said
The Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus reads: “Too straight-faced to have as much fun with its juicy premise as it could, G20 is more pedestrian than presidential but does have a commanding lead in Viola Davis.” The line captures the split in the reviews. Critics tended to credit Davis’s central performance while finding the tone too serious for a premise that invites more playfulness.

Davis herself framed the film in promotional remarks reported by What to Watch on April 8, 2025: “G20 is a high-stakes action film with a lot of heart.” Riggen described her aim as an edge-of-your-seat action film that draws on the stakes of a technologically connected world. Those are the filmmakers’ intentions, not evidence of how the film landed with critics.
