Attendee accounts describe a private celebration for Vince McMahon’s 80th birthday over the weekend of August 22–24, 2025, in New York. The three details that drew the most attention are that Jelly Roll performed, that McMahon’s suit was compared to Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers films, and that several former WWE names were reportedly present. All of these come from recollections published after the event. None of the sources offers a complete guest list or an independently verified record of the evening.
When and where the celebration took place
F4WOnline’s Ian Carey reported on September 3, 2025 that the celebration ran over the weekend of August 22–24. He placed the Friday cocktail party at the Baccarat Hotel in New York, and said live performances were also held at Gotham Hall. Those venue and date details come from that single report, and the other accounts discussed below do not independently confirm them.
What The Godfather described
The Godfather, speaking to F4WOnline for its September 3, 2025 report of his Poddin’ Ain’t Easy account, summed up the night this way: “We had a good time. Cena was there. A lot of entertainers were there. Jelly Roll performed.” He also recalled a remark McMahon made to him: “Charles, I just want you to know there’s nobody here that’s not my true friend.” That quotation is The Godfather’s recollection, reproduced by F4WOnline; it is not a record of the conversation kept by the outlet.
The Dr. Evil comparison
The Dr. Evil line is an attendee comparison, not a reported costume choice. The Godfather said McMahon’s suit reminded him of Dr. Evil, telling him “Dr. Evil, you’re Dr. Evil,” and he reported that The Undertaker made the same comparison. The reporting describes the suit as compared to Dr. Evil. It does not establish that McMahon dressed as the character on purpose.

Entertainment at the party
Jelly Roll
Two attendee accounts mention Jelly Roll. The Godfather said Jelly Roll performed, as quoted above. Teddy Long, speaking to Fightful, said Jelly Roll and an all-black choir provided the entertainment. Neither account gives a set list, a run time or a description of the performance itself.

Orchestral and operatic music
Sgt. Slaughter, interviewed by Bill Apter and quoted by Sports Illustrated/FanNation, described the New York Symphony playing behind a curtain before McMahon came on stage to welcome guests. Slaughter quoted McMahon’s greeting as: “Welcome to my 80th birthday party. Come down and join me, and let’s have some fun.” The Godfather also mentioned the New York Symphony. A later Wrestling Inc. report reproduces his account that an unnamed Italian opera singer also performed. That singer is not identified in the account, and no other source here names them.

Phone and camera restrictions
Sgt. Slaughter described strict rules for guests. Phones could not be kept on their person. Guests had to leave them in their rooms or check them at the door, and anyone who needed to make a call had to go outside. Slaughter also said event staff had cameras, even though guests were not allowed to take pictures.
The account therefore describes a restriction on guest photography, not an absence of all event photographs. Staff cameras existed, but the reporting does not say what they recorded or whether any of that material has been published.

JBL’s later remarks
In a July 31, 2026 Wrestling Inc. report on JBL’s Something to Wrestle appearance, JBL called McMahon “the greatest host ever” and recalled that McMahon said he had designed the sound system himself. He also said: “Everybody [who was there says] that was one of the most legendary weekends of all time.” These are JBL’s characterizations and recollections, years after the event. They are not a technical specification of the sound system, and they are not an objective assessment of the production.
