The clip behind Jimmy Kimmel’s hairstylist segment was filmed on February 2, 2018, as Donald Trump boarded Air Force One. The Jimmy Kimmel Live! video, in which hairstylists react to the windblown footage, was published on the show’s official YouTube channel on February 7.
What happens in the video?
Kimmel uses the gust of wind—and the way it moves Trump’s hair—as the comic setup, then asks hairstylists for their reactions. He jokes that “his hair tried to fly to Mar-a-Lago on its own.” ABC News also reported his line: “This is why Darth Vader had the good sense to wear a helmet.” ABC News’ February 8, 2018, account describes the footage and Kimmel’s monologue.
The clip itself is not the same date as the segment: the Air Force One boarding footage was captured February 2, the Kimmel video appeared February 7, and contemporaneous news coverage followed on February 8 and 9. The official Jimmy Kimmel Live YouTube listing uses the title “Hair Stylists React to Trump’s Hair Flapping in the Wind.”
What did the hairstylists say?
Reports by TIME and Vanity Fair describe a series of roast-style reactions. Unnamed participants compared the back of Trump’s head to an ostrich or a dog’s backside, and one comparison invoked a monster from The Goonies. Other comments called it a bad weave or suggested it was not secured tightly enough.

A stylist quoted by TIME said, “That looks like ostrich butt. That looks like the behind of an ostrich.” Vanity Fair quoted a stylist saying, “Someone did not glue that down tight enough!” and another calling it “a bad weave.” These are remarks from an entertainment segment, not confirmed assessments of how Trump’s hairstyle was made or maintained.
Did the stylists recommend a fix?
Some suggested shaving the head. Another proposed “Pomade. Lots of pomade . . . Maybe four or five cans, slicked down to the skin,” as Vanity Fair reported. The line is part of the bit: the coverage names no pomade brand and does not establish a product recommendation or professional consensus.

What the clip does—and does not—establish
The footage shows wind displacing Trump’s hair while he boards Air Force One. The jokes and stylist reactions respond to that visible moment. The cited coverage does not verify whether he wore a wig, hairpiece, weave, or any particular treatment, so the segment should not be treated as proof of one.
TIME’s February 8 report, Vanity Fair’s February 8 coverage, and Scroll.in’s February 9 summary recount the reactions. The subject is a single comedy segment, not a technical examination of Trump’s hair.
