Somewhere in the Tropics es la colaboración de Vélez y la diseñadora colombiana de joyería Paula Mendoza, presentada en Colombiamoda 2025. Vélez y Paula Mendoza presentaron la colaboración el 30 de julio de 2025, durante Colombiamoda. El proyecto reúne dos lenguajes materiales: la marroquinería de Vélez y la joyería de Mendoza. La diseñadora la enmarcó como una celebración del talento colombiano y de sus raíces.
En su relato oficial, Mendoza describe una combinación de oro, cuero y telas fluidas, con formas orgánicas, texturas irregulares y superficies martilladas. La naturaleza, el trópico y el trabajo artesanal aparecen como referencias del lenguaje visual de la colección; son descripciones de la diseñadora, no una evaluación independiente de fabricación o calidad. Joyas diseñadas para cambiar el conjunto
La cobertura de El Espectador informó que la cápsula incluye diez piezas de joyería diseñadas por Mendoza, integradas con prendas y complementos de cuero. Entre las categorías mencionadas están collares, brazaletes y accesorios dorados, junto con chaquetas y tops. Mendoza explicó que buscaba “cambiar las prendas de ropa con los accesorios” y que las piezas pudieran transformarse y llevarse de distintas maneras.
