Why was James Kennedy arrested?
Burbank police said officers were sent to a residence at about 11:30 p.m. on December 10, 2024, after receiving a report of an argument between a man and a woman. Sgt. Stephen Turner described the call as “regarding an argument between a man and a woman.” Police said their investigation determined it was a domestic incident and that Kennedy was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence. The initial police account did not identify the woman. The Associated Press reported that Kennedy was released after posting a $20,000 bond; the Burbank City Attorney’s Office was to review the matter for possible charges.
What did Ally Lewber say about the incident?
After the arrest, Kennedy’s Vanderpump Rules co-star Ally Lewber publicly said she was involved. She described the argument as occurring outside Kennedy’s home and relating to his drinking, and said she was not physically hurt: “We had an argument outside of his home related to him drinking again, however, I was not physically hurt.” Lewber also said she had not wanted criminal charges, that the two were no longer together, and that she wished Kennedy well. These are Lewber’s statements; the initial police account did not identify the woman. CNN reported her comments.
Was James Kennedy charged?
No charges were filed, according to the reporting. On January 22, 2025, Burbank Deputy City Attorney Kurt Crossman confirmed to CNN that “prosecution was declined today.” Kennedy’s attorney, Scott Leemon, said the office had informed him that no charges would be filed and thanked it for reviewing the matter. Leemon’s characterization of the review and evidence was his statement, not a court finding.

Declining prosecution is a charging decision, not an acquittal or a judicial determination that the allegations were true or false. The sources reporting this case do not establish whether any unrelated or later proceedings occurred.

On December 17, 2024, Kennedy said: “I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life.” He also said he was focusing on sobriety, personal growth, and being present for loved ones. Those comments describe his stated intentions at the time; they do not independently establish treatment or future conduct. People reported his statement.
