Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk closed on January 8 and 9, 2025, as extreme winds and fire conditions affected the Los Angeles area. Universal announced they would reopen on January 10. The closure was precautionary; the reporting reviewed here does not establish that the park itself burned or was damaged.
Why did Universal Studios Hollywood close?
Universal attributed the January 8 closure of both Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk to extreme winds and fire conditions during the Los Angeles-area wildfire emergency. The company said, “The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority,” as reported by the Los Angeles Times and in Universal’s January 8 announcement.
Universal initially said it expected to open the following day, but the closure continued through January 9. A closure prompted by regional conditions does not, by itself, mean the venue was on fire.
When did the park reopen?
Universal announced that the park and CityWalk would reopen Friday, January 10, 2025, and resume regular operating hours. The announcement, reproduced by NBC Los Angeles, also expressed sympathy for people affected by the fires and appreciation for first responders.

Those were historical, date-specific hours, not a current schedule.
Was Universal Studios Hollywood damaged by the fires?
The contemporaneous reporting cited here documents the closure and reopening, but does not establish fire damage to the theme park. ABC News reported the park’s location in Universal City and its January 10 reopening in its January 10 report. Do not infer that the park burned from the fact that it closed during the regional emergency.

Hours vary by date and season and may change. Universal says its calendar typically posts hours about four weeks ahead; hours for individual attractions and venues can differ from park hours. Check the official calendar for the specific date you plan to visit rather than relying on old news coverage.
