Two advertised matchups changed before the completed card. Chris Weidman vs. Eryk Anders was canceled because of a medical issue involving Anders. Lucas Almeida was removed from the featherweight matchup with David Onama, and UFC newcomer Roberto Romero replaced Almeida.
The Onama–Romero replacement fight was made at lightweight. Mauricio Ruffy vs. James Llontop also changed to a 165-pound catchweight contest. UFC detailed those changes in its official UFC 309 event update.
