Twitch’s TikTok-style Discovery Feed is not a new 2026 launch, and it is not a feed where streamers upload posts directly. Twitch began rolling it out broadly in 2024 as a mobile discovery feature for viewers. Since then, the company has expanded its vertical-video strategy: as of June 17, 2026, all streamers can use Dual Format Streaming to send separate horizontal and vertical live layouts to Twitch. For creators, the feed is an opportunity to be discovered through live recommendations and clips—not a promise of exposure.
What Twitch’s Discovery Feed is—and what it isn’t
Twitch’s Discovery Feed is a viewer-facing, vertically scrollable surface in the mobile app. It is designed to help people find live channels they do not already follow. Twitch also offers a separate Clips Feed for short videos. The company’s recommendations policy describes the two scrollable feeds as surfaces for live content and clips.
That distinction matters for streamers: there generally is no dedicated feed where a creator uploads a post in the same way they would to TikTok. Instead, Twitch may recommend a creator’s live stream or clips to viewers. The wider mobile home experience can surface recommendations too, but it is not the same thing as the live Discovery Feed or Clips Feed. Twitch Stories are another separate format for community updates.

How the feed developed
- August 2023: Twitch began testing a Discovery Feed in its mobile apps, according to contemporaneous reporting.
- April 30, 2024: Twitch began a broad rollout of the TikTok-like Discovery Feed.
- July 29, 2024: Twitch outlined its redesigned mobile app, including live recommendations and a separate Clips Feed. See Twitch’s mobile-app announcement.
- 2024–2025: Twitch introduced portrait clip tools and said it would keep working on feed loading, recommendations, clip editing, and vertical video. Its 2025 roadmap describes those plans.
- June 17, 2026: Twitch announced Dual Format Streaming for all streamers, making a separate vertical live layout part of the story, not just portrait clips. Twitch’s announcement also sets out the separate eligibility for 2K streaming.
What viewers see
On mobile, a viewer may encounter personalized live recommendations and swipe through them, or browse clips in the Clips Feed. They can tap into a stream, follow the channel, join chat, or continue browsing. Twitch says recommendations can draw on followed streamers and communities it believes a viewer may enjoy. The full ranking recipe is not public; the recommendations policy explains the system at a high level.
Exact navigation, labels, and feed placement can change with app version, account state, geography, device, and Twitch experiments. Desktop viewers should not expect an identical interface: this is primarily a mobile-app discovery experience.
How streamers can show up
Creators participate through the content Twitch can recommend: live broadcasts and clips. A clip can introduce a channel to someone outside its usual category or follower base, while a live recommendation can bring a viewer straight into a broadcast. But eligibility is not placement. Twitch does not publish a universal ranking formula, and creators cannot force a particular stream or clip into the feed.

Clipping also depends on channel settings and whether the source is eligible. Twitch’s clips guide explains how to create clips and notes formatting issues with portrait clips; Twitch has specifically pointed to 9:16 compatibility for portrait surfaces such as Discovery and Stories. A clip that is technically available may still be poorly framed or unclear to a viewer scrolling quickly.
Make clips work on a phone
A useful vertical clip communicates its moment quickly. Try this workflow after a broadcast:
- Enable clips in your Twitch Clips settings, then mark notable moments during the stream or ask trusted moderators and viewers to do so.
- Review each candidate. Choose a moment with one clear idea, a visible payoff, or a compelling question. Remove dead air or confusing setup where possible.
- Check the portrait frame. Use a 9:16 version where available. Keep gameplay, facecam, captions, and other essential information visible in the narrow frame; do not assume a center crop will preserve the action.
- Make text readable. Test captions and alerts on an actual phone at normal viewing size. Keep important details away from the extreme edges and avoid covering the gameplay or action.
- Give it context and identity. Use a descriptive title and make it reasonably clear who is speaking or what viewers are watching. A brief cue can help; a long explanation can bury the moment.
- Publish, then distribute selectively. Share the strongest clips on Twitch and consider adapting them for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or Instagram Reels. Twitch has described easier mobile clip sharing in its clip-sharing announcement.
There is no verified magic title length, hashtag, or posting schedule that guarantees a recommendation. Focus on a clear opening, an understandable moment, and a portrait composition that works on a small screen.

What Dual Format Streaming changes
Clips are edited after a moment happens; a live layout must remain usable throughout the broadcast. That is the production difference behind Dual Format Streaming. Twitch says the feature lets streamers maintain a horizontal layout for desktop and living-room viewers alongside a distinct vertical layout for mobile viewers. Twitch also says it can produce horizontal and vertical versions of Clips and VODs from a dual-format setup.
As announced on June 17, 2026, Dual Format is available to all streamers, while 2K/1440p streaming is limited to Partners and Affiliates. Twitch says Dual Format uses Enhanced Broadcasting. It can reduce the need to manually rebuild every clip, but a second layout still needs thoughtful scene design and a stable setup. Test encoder load, system performance, and upload capacity; if you see dropped frames or other stream-health problems, reduce settings or simplify the production.
For vertical scenes, reposition rather than merely crop: put the facecam and key gameplay where they remain legible, keep critical HUD elements visible, and make alerts and text fit the narrow frame. Check the result on a phone before relying on it. Twitch says 70% of new viewers come to Twitch on mobile; that is Twitch’s own reported figure, not an independent industry-wide measurement. Twitch has also said its testing found vertical layouts drove more clicks into streams, a company-reported result rather than a guarantee for every channel.

Can the feed help a small streamer grow?
It creates a new route to discovery, but it does not guarantee meaningful growth. A good clip may earn attention from a viewer who would not have browsed your category; a vertical live layout may make that viewer more willing to tap through. Whether those encounters turn into a community depends on the content, the stream itself, and whether people return.
Do not judge success by clip views alone. Where your analytics allow, look for follows associated with clips, live viewers after a clip gains attention, returning viewers, watch time, chat participation, and—if relevant—subscriptions or Bits. A clip can be entertaining without telling people when you stream, and casual short-video viewers may not become regular live viewers. Twitch has said it is continuing to explore recommendation signals, but it has not published a complete ranking formula.

Common problems and fixes
- The portrait frame hides the action: Build a dedicated vertical composition rather than blindly cropping the center of a 16:9 scene.
- Captions or alerts are unreadable: Check them on a phone, simplify them, and move essential information away from the edges.
- The clip makes no sense without context: Choose a self-contained moment or add a short opening cue; avoid several minutes of setup.
- Views do not bring live viewers: Make channel identity and your live schedule easy to find, then track follows and returning viewers instead of views alone.
- The feed seems to be missing: Check the mobile app version, whether you are logged in, your account and region, and whether Twitch is testing a different interface. Not every viewer necessarily sees identical controls.
- Clipping is unavailable: Check whether clips are enabled for the channel and whether the content is eligible.
- Dual Format strains the setup: Monitor encoder and system load, upload capacity, and dropped frames; simplify scenes or lower settings if necessary.
- One platform becomes your only discovery plan: Keep sharing suitable clips elsewhere and maintain direct ways for your community to hear from you.
Do you need new software?
Not just because Twitch has a swipeable feed. Twitch’s broadcasting software guide lists OBS Studio and Streamlabs Desktop among common options and describes OBS as free. First identify the problem you need to solve: scene design, editing, multistreaming, moderation, or analytics.

- Twitch Dual Format plus OBS: A sensible starting point for Twitch-first creators who want control and are comfortable configuring scenes. It does not guarantee recommendation exposure.
- Streamlabs: May suit creators who want bundled overlays, alerts, and related creator tools. Compare paid features with what you already use before taking on a subscription.
- Restream or another cloud multistreaming service: Consider it if your goal is to distribute a show to several platforms or manage output in the cloud—not simply to improve placement in Twitch’s feed.
Local multistreaming can add system and upload demands; cloud services can add recurring costs and third-party dependencies. No software vendor can guarantee that Twitch will recommend your content.
Discovery is not a payment program
The feed itself is not a direct payment program. More discovery might lead to follows, repeat viewers, subscriptions, Bits, sponsorship interest, or growth on other platforms, but none is automatic. Twitch announced expanded access to monetization tools in May 2026 for eligible streamers; access to tools is not the same as earning predictable income.
