Twitch Channel Points are a free, channel-specific reward system: viewers earn points through eligible activity and redeem them for rewards a creator has configured. To set them up, eligible creators complete Twitch’s onboarding, open Creator Dashboard → Channel Points, enable the feature, then add and price rewards. The points are not cash, Bits, or transferable between channels.
This guide covers setup and redemption management for streamers, plus the basics viewers need to earn and spend points.
What are Twitch Channel Points?
Channel Points are a loyalty feature built into Twitch. Viewers earn them on a particular channel and can spend them on that channel’s available rewards. They do not move with a viewer from one channel to another, and viewers do not buy them directly.
They are not Bits, subscriptions, donations, or a cash balance. A reward might trigger a built-in Twitch action, or it might ask the creator to do something on stream. Custom rewards generally need to be fulfilled by the creator or a moderator.

Also distinguish Twitch Channel Points from a chatbot’s loyalty points. For example, StreamElements has its own loyalty currency and !points command; that balance is separate from a viewer’s Twitch Channel Points. StreamElements explains its command in its points documentation.
Who can use Channel Points in 2026?
Access depends on Twitch’s current eligibility and onboarding requirements. Twitch’s help material describes Channel Points as a tool for monetized streamers, while its May 2026 announcement expanded access to Channel Points and related community tools for eligible streamers globally. That does not mean every Twitch account automatically has the feature. Account status, country, and rollout conditions can matter.
An Affiliate invitation by itself is not the same as completed onboarding. Twitch says creators should complete the relevant onboarding before customizing Channel Points. If you have just completed onboarding and cannot find the feature, allow up to 24 hours for it to appear. Check Twitch’s Channel Points FAQ for current eligibility details.

How viewers earn, check, and redeem points
Viewers need to be logged in and watching or participating in eligible activity. Twitch documents earning through watching, following, raids, and other channel activity. Points belong to the channel being watched; they are not a site-wide balance. For squad streams, Twitch says viewers earn points on the primary stream.
Twitch gives approximately 220 points per hour as a general reference for an average viewer, not a guaranteed rate. Subscribers earn watching multipliers documented by Twitch: Tier 1 is 1.2×, Tier 2 is 1.4×, and Tier 3 is 2×. Actual earning can vary with the activity and current product behavior. To check rewards, open the channel page or app, go to chat, and select the Channel Points icon near the bottom of the chat box. Choose an available reward, enter any requested details, and confirm. Its position can differ between desktop and mobile interfaces, but look for the Channel Points control associated with chat.
A reward may be unavailable because the viewer lacks enough points, the creator has disabled or paused it, a cooldown is active, or a per-user or per-stream limit has been reached. Some rewards may only be redeemable while the channel is live.

If points do not accumulate, first confirm you are logged in and watching the intended channel. Twitch notes that Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection can interfere with watch-time tracking; allowing Twitch tracking or adding an exception may help. Points from another channel will not transfer.
Enable Channel Points in Creator Dashboard
- Open Twitch’s Creator Dashboard, preferably on desktop web.
- In the left navigation, find Channel Points. Twitch has changed the surrounding category labels over time; it may appear under an area such as Viewer Rewards or Community.
- Turn on Enable Channel Points. Confirm or save if Twitch presents that control.
If the option is missing, verify that onboarding is complete and that you are signed into the correct creator account. Wait up to 24 hours after onboarding, refresh or sign out and back in, then search the desktop Creator Dashboard for Channel Points. If access still appears unavailable, check Twitch’s current eligibility FAQ; do not assume an invitation alone activates the feature.
Rename and brand your points
In Channel Points settings, look for the option labeled along the lines of Customize Points Display. There you can choose a display name and, if available, upload a custom icon. Twitch’s exact labels can change, so look for the display customization within Channel Points.
Pick a short, readable name that fits your channel and is easy to say aloud. Avoid names that could be mistaken for money, Bits, or a real-world prize. A custom name changes the display, not the underlying currency or its channel-specific nature. Explain the name once in a chat command, panel, or brief on-stream note so new viewers know what it means.

Default rewards are built-in Twitch actions. Examples may include highlighting a message or unlocking an emote. Twitch handles the technical action, though you can generally adjust availability, cost, or appearance. The reward list can change, so use the options currently shown in your dashboard rather than relying on an old list.
Custom rewards are defined by you and usually require you or a moderator to fulfill them. Examples include a shoutout, choosing a topic or game, selecting a character, or a harmless on-stream challenge. Be explicit about what the viewer gets, when it will happen, and any limits. Twitch currently documents a maximum of 50 Channel Points rewards.
Create a custom reward
- In Creator Dashboard, open Channel Points and select Manage Rewards.
- Choose Add New Custom Reward.
- Write a clear title and description that state exactly what the viewer receives.
- Set a point cost. Add an icon or background color if you want.
- Decide whether the viewer must enter text. Use that only for relevant details, such as a game choice—not passwords, payment details, contact information, or other sensitive data.
- Set cooldowns and per-stream or per-user limits. Choose whether the reward should require the channel to be live.
- Save it, then test the viewer-facing redemption or ask a trusted moderator to check it.
Twitch warns that viewer text responses appear in chat. Do not solicit private information, and reject and refund a redemption if someone submits inappropriate or sensitive text rather than repeating it publicly.

How to price rewards
There is no universal right price. Twitch provides suggested costs and Smart Costs for default rewards; custom rewards need a cost you set yourself. Price according to how many points viewers tend to earn, stream length, audience activity, how disruptive or time-consuming fulfillment is, and whether the reward has a real marginal cost. Subscribers may accumulate points faster because of their watching multipliers.

- Low cost: quick, repeatable interactions.
- Medium cost: noticeable actions that are still easy to fulfill regularly.
- High cost: choices or actions that interrupt play or require preparation.
- Very high cost: rare events you want to happen only occasionally.
A practical launch is three to five rewards with conservative costs. Watch redemptions over several streams. Raise costs, add a cooldown, or set a cap if a reward disrupts the stream; lower the cost if it is desirable but rarely redeemed. Treat any sample prices you see elsewhere as suggestions, not Twitch rules.
Use cooldowns and limits to control volume
Custom rewards can have three useful controls:
- Global cooldown: how long must pass before anyone can redeem it again.
- Per-stream limit: the maximum number of redemptions during one stream.
- Per-user limit: how many times one viewer can redeem it during one stream.
Twitch documents custom-reward cooldowns from one minute to seven days. These controls are available for rewards redeemable while the channel is live. For example, limit “choose the next game” to once per viewer per stream, give a sound effect a short global cooldown, and cap a game-changing reward to a small number per stream.
Manage redemptions while live
Custom redemptions appear in the Activity Feed and rewards queue. Open the queue through the Channel Points reward control or Live Dashboard; Twitch also documents access through /requests on desktop/web and chat settings or tasks. The exact control may shift as Twitch updates its interface.
- Mark a fulfilled request Complete.
- Choose Reject when you cannot or should not fulfill it. Twitch documents that rejected redemptions return the points to the viewer.
- Pause redemptions if the queue is too large, you need a break, or a reward is temporarily impractical.
Moderators can help complete or reject requests, refund points, and pause redemptions. Agree on who handles the queue before a busy stream. Do not leave a reward unresolved without explanation: reject it so the viewer gets the points back, or state a clear replacement policy in the reward description.

- Easy to fulfill: shoutout, choose a discussion topic, or request an emote-friendly moment. These are usually low effort; set a modest per-user limit if they interrupt the flow.
- Moderate effort: choose the next game, map, or character, or trigger a sound effect. Use a cooldown or per-stream cap so choices do not take over the stream.
- High effort: play with a viewer, switch games, or do a physical challenge. Explain eligibility and timing, set a strict cap, and use manual approval where appropriate.
A reward should be fun for the audience and realistically fulfillable by you. Avoid vague promises, requests for personal information, and prizes or chance-based mechanics unless you have checked Twitch’s current rules and applicable law. Do you need a bot or automation tool?
Usually not at the start. Native Twitch tools are enough for manual rewards such as shoutouts, topic choices, and simple actions. Learning the built-in queue first keeps permissions and integrations simple.

An external tool becomes useful when a redemption should trigger an OBS scene, sound, overlay, TTS, clip, or more elaborate automated workflow. StreamElements also offers a separate loyalty system and related tools; its points are not automatically Twitch Channel Points. Streamer.bot is an option for desktop automation, but it adds setup and troubleshooting. Use a tool only when you have a specific workflow the native queue cannot handle, and review the permissions it requests.
Common problems and fixes
Channel Points are missing
Check onboarding and account eligibility, allow up to 24 hours after onboarding, and search the Creator Dashboard on desktop. Menu categories can change, so look for the Channel Points feature rather than relying on an old navigation path.

Viewers are not earning points
Confirm they are logged in and watching the right channel. Check browser privacy settings if watch-time tracking is not registering, especially Firefox Enhanced Tracking Protection. Remember that points are channel-specific; they do not transfer.
A reward does not appear
Check whether it is enabled, whether the channel must be live, whether a cooldown is running, and whether the viewer has reached a per-user or per-stream cap. Also confirm that the viewer is looking at the correct channel.
The queue is overwhelming
Pause redemptions temporarily, raise costs, narrow the reward description, add cooldowns or limits, and ask moderators to help. For simple repetitive actions, consider automation only if the setup burden is worth it.
A reward cannot be fulfilled
Reject it rather than leaving it unresolved; Twitch documents that this returns the points. If you offer an alternative, state the policy clearly so viewers know what to expect.
