What the 2024 Twisters 4DX release included
CJ 4DPLEX said on July 25, 2024, that Twisters earned more than $2.3 million in domestic 4DX during its opening weekend across 62 auditoriums. The company reported a 2.9% domestic market share and a $37,120 per-screen average. These are historical opening-weekend figures supplied by the format company, not evidence of current demand or availability.

The presentation used 21 synchronized movements and storm-oriented effects, including rotating gusts of wind, seat vibration, water, snow, lightning and scents. In practical terms, the seats and environmental effects are timed to the action rather than simply showing the same image and sound as a standard screening.
Was Twisters shown in 4DX theaters?
Yes. CJ 4DPLEX’s October 2024 account described the film playing in 4DX at Regal and referred to 49 U.S. 4DX theaters in its partnership. That number was a dated footprint, not a current location list. A theater that showed the film in 2024 may not be showing it now, and the film could return only if a venue schedules a re-release.

How to find a current Twisters 4DX screening
Because a current nationwide list is not established, check availability one venue and date at a time:
- Open the official website or app for a nearby theater chain.
- Search for Twisters, then select your location and intended date.
- Review the format attached to each individual showtime.
- Buy only after the session itself is marked 4DX; a theater having a 4DX auditorium does not mean every film or showtime uses it.
- Recheck the listing before traveling, since schedules and formats can change.
Regal’s official 4DX information is a useful starting point for understanding the format, but its live showtime flow is the authority for a particular venue. Availability varies by location and schedule.

What watching Twisters in 4DX feels like
The format is designed to make the storm scenes physical. Seats can pitch, jolt, vibrate or rotate while air, water, snow, light and scent effects are triggered in sync with the film. The Guardian’s Adrian Horton described the experience as physically vivid, with strong jolts, water and audience cheers during storm sequences. Horton’s line that “you are the storm” is review language, not a production claim or a safety assessment.
Should you see Twisters in 4DX?
4DX is a good fit if you want
- Motion and environmental effects as part of the entertainment.
- A high-stimulation, theme-park-like presentation rather than an undisturbed seat.
- Storm scenes that feel tactile as well as audiovisual.
A standard screening is likely better if you prefer
- A stable seat and uninterrupted concentration on performances, dialogue and effects mixing.
- Lower sensory intensity or less exposure to motion, water, wind and sudden jolts.
- The widest choice of showtimes and venues.
The Guardian reviewer strongly favored the experience, but one positive review is not a representative audience survey. The sensible choice is preference-based: choose 4DX for physical immersion, or standard 2D or another large-screen format for comfort and control.

Comfort and safety considerations
Regal’s surfaced 4DX guidance cautions pregnant and elderly people, people who are physically or mentally sensitive, and people with listed health conditions. The full official guidance should be read before purchasing because the page content available here was limited to a search excerpt. If motion, water, sudden lighting or intense stimulation could be a problem for you, ask the venue about its current policy or choose a standard presentation.
What about the ticket price?
The Guardian reported that 4DX tickets averaged about $8 more than standard tickets in August 2024. That is historical reporting, not a current price quote. The premium at your theater can differ by market, date, membership, showtime and format, so check the checkout total for the exact screening.

4DX compared with standard or large-screen formats
| Consideration | 4DX | Standard 2D or large-screen presentation |
|---|---|---|
| Physical effects | Synchronized seat movement and environmental effects such as wind, water, snow, lightning and scents. | No 4DX motion or environmental-effect system. |
| Comfort | More intense; sudden movement and wet or airborne effects are part of the show. | More predictable and generally easier to sit through for motion-sensitive viewers. |
| Immersion | Prioritizes bodily participation in action sequences. | Prioritizes image, sound and an undisturbed viewing position. |
| Availability | Only at venues and showtimes specifically labeled 4DX; current Twisters availability is not established. | Usually offered in more locations and sessions, subject to the local schedule. |
| Price | Venue-specific premium; the reported 2024 average was about $8 above standard. | Use the local theater’s current price as the comparison. |
Bottom line
Twisters was a natural match for 4DX’s storm effects, and its 2024 engagement is documented. There is no verified current theater list, however. Check a live showtime and the exact 4DX label before making plans. Choose it if you enjoy vigorous motion and sensory effects; choose a standard screening if you want comfort, stability or fewer physical stimuli.
