Spoilers for “Bubbles,” Season 3, Episode 6. The episode splits its story across three journeys: Dwight’s meeting with Quiet Ray in Arkansas, Mitch and Cleo’s trip to Louisiana, and an errand involving Bodhi and Grace. The familiar road-trip structure sometimes feels like a way to deliver plot pieces, but it also makes room for character moments. The clearest change in the season’s direction comes at the end, when a Dunmire attack turns Dwight’s meeting into a shootout and renews the friction with Quiet Ray.

Mitch and Cleo take the Fifty to Louisiana
Mitch and Cleo head to Louisiana to offload the Fifty through one of Cleo’s connections. A police officer aligned with the Dunmires pulls them over, and they manage to escape. The trip also gives them room to talk: Mitch explains why he joined Dwight, while Cleo’s bravado gives way to signs of unease.
Bodhi and Grace’s errand leads to a personal conversation
Bodhi and Grace have their own separate errand. Later, Bodhi tells Mitch that finding the health inspector’s body affected him because it brought back the memory of his friend dying in his arms in Season 2. Mitch listens, and the two share an awkward hug. It is a small exchange, but it connects the current case to a loss Bodhi is still carrying.

The Arkansas meeting ends in violence
Cole Dunmire interrupts Dwight’s meeting with an attempt on Dwight’s life. A shootout follows, but no one is hit. Quiet Ray blames Dwight for the attack, setting up renewed tension between the Tulsa and New York sides rather than resolving their dispute.
Goodie accounts for Armand
In a phone call, Goodie tells Dwight that Armand died by suicide. The news accounts for Armand’s disappearance without turning the moment into spectacle; the episode delivers it as a sober piece of information amid the larger conflicts.

Do the road trips make the episode feel repetitive?
There is a reasonable case that they do. Three journeys divide the hour into parallel strands, and much of the travel stages business already underway: a negotiation, a delivery, and an errand. Reviewer Brittany Frederick described the episode as “largely a road trip movie before it drops a bombshell at the end” in her October 26, 2025, review for TVBrittanyF.com. Her assessment is that the episode gives limited attention to major developments from the previous installment until its late confrontation, leaving parts of the hour feeling like setup.
But the trips are not interchangeable in what they accomplish. Mitch and Cleo’s run gives their relationship texture alongside the immediate business of moving the Fifty. Bodhi’s conversation with Mitch makes the consequences of an earlier season’s trauma relevant again. Neither exchange produces a major shift in the crime plot, but both add character continuity to episodes that might otherwise play as errands between confrontations.

Dwight’s meeting is the strand that most decisively changes the situation. The attempted hit forces the Tulsa–New York conflict back into the open, and Ray’s blame gives the episode a forward-moving final beat. The result is a setup-heavy hour with a familiar structure, not one without payoff: the character moments help, while the ending carries most of the escalation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ending sets up
The attack leaves Dwight and Quiet Ray with another reason to distrust each other, while the confrontation implicates the Dunmires in a direct threat against Dwight. Ray’s accusation does not settle who is responsible for the broader tensions; it makes his relationship with Dwight more volatile. The episode closes by pointing toward conflict between the Tulsa and New York sides, rather than offering a resolution.
