Donald Trump threatened to sue Grammy host Trevor Noah after Noah joked that Trump needed a new island to spend time with Bill Clinton because “Epstein’s island is gone.” Trump said the joke falsely implied he had been there and denied visiting the island. The reporting available here establishes a threat to sue, not whether a lawsuit was later filed.
What Trevor Noah said at the 2026 Grammys
Noah made the joke after Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for “WILDFLOWER” at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 1, 2026. Eilish’s win is listed in the Recording Academy’s award archive. Noah, hosting the ceremony for the sixth time, first compared the award to Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland, then said: “Which makes sense. I mean, because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.” The Associated Press event report records the exchange. The Recording Academy had described the appearance as Noah’s final time hosting the show in its host announcement.

The line was a joke about Trump’s pursuit of Greenland and the association of Jeffrey Epstein’s island with Trump and Clinton; it should not be read as a literal factual report that Trump visited the island.
How Trump responded
In a Truth Social post after the ceremony, Trump called the Grammys “the WORST, virtually unwatchable!” He said Noah had wrongly suggested that he and Clinton spent time on Epstein Island, denied that he had ever been there or anywhere close, and threatened legal action. AP quoted Trump: “It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C.” The Los Angeles Times also reported Trump’s denial and threat.

Did Trump actually sue Trevor Noah?
The cited reports document Trump’s threat, not a filed complaint. They do not establish whether a lawsuit was filed later, so it would be inaccurate to describe the threat itself as a lawsuit or to claim that no case was ever filed. Trump’s denial is his own statement, not independent verification of his whereabouts.
