The 35-second clip put fabricated vulgar remarks in a synthetic version of Schumer’s voice; the statements were not authentic quotations. The reporting identifies neither the tool used to make the video nor its audience or effect.
What the video showed
Ars Technica reported that the clip showed Schumer speaking in a crude, fabricated monologue while Jeffries appeared wearing a sombrero. The video also included a fake mustache and mariachi music. Its synthetic speech attributed words to Schumer that he had not said.
Trump posted the video to Truth Social on Monday night, September 29. Ars Technica published its account the next day. The article describes the clip as AI-generated, but does not identify a generator, explain the production workflow, or provide forensic evidence establishing how it was made. Ars Technica’s September 30 report is the source for the reported details.
Why it appeared amid a funding dispute
The video arrived after Schumer and Jeffries had met with Trump about a possible agreement to fund the government, with a shutdown deadline nearing. That setting matters: the clip portrayed the opposition leaders during an active political dispute, but its vulgar dialogue was invented rather than a record of what Schumer said in the meeting or elsewhere.

What the fabricated claim gets wrong
The fictional monologue suggests undocumented immigrants could receive health care so they could vote. People in the United States illegally cannot vote in federal elections. Ars Technica also cited a 2024 Georgia audit that found 20 noncitizens among the state’s 8.2 million registered voters; 11 of those 20 had no history of voting. That is a Georgia registration audit, not a national estimate, and it says nothing about whether the video changed anyone’s beliefs.
What is established—and what is not
The OECD.AI incident monitor classifies the episode as an AI incident, citing misinformation and potential community harm. That is the monitor’s assessment, not a legal ruling or a quantified study of impact. Its incident record is dated September 30, 2025.

- Established in the reporting: Trump posted the clip on Truth Social; it depicted Schumer and Jeffries; and it used synthetic speech to deliver fabricated remarks attributed to Schumer.
- Not established in the reviewed accounts: which AI system generated it, how it was produced, how many people saw it, or whether viewers believed the false dialogue.
Ars Technica author Nate Anderson framed the episode as a question of conduct by public officials: “In such a climate, our most senior elected officials have a special duty to model truth-seeking behavior and responsible AI use.” That is Anderson’s editorial view, not a statement by a regulator or the officials shown.
