What happens to Clark at the end of Episode 2?
The episode ends on a disappearance cliffhanger. As the frozen mass is thawed, investigators find five of the Tsalal scientists. Clark is not among them. Navarro takes his absence as a reason to think he may be alive, while Danvers raises the possibility that he was separated from the group. Those are the detectives’ interpretations, not a confirmed account of what happened. The Ringer’s recap of the episode likewise leaves Clark’s location and condition unresolved.
Episode 2 does not show Clark escaping, dying elsewhere, or causing the other scientists’ deaths. The only firm conclusion at this point is that he is unaccounted for.
Why do the detectives connect Clark to Annie K?
Clark’s spiral tattoo resembles the spiral on Annie K’s back and the one found on a scientist’s forehead. Navarro’s search also leads her to Clark’s trailer, where she finds Annie’s phone, an image of the spiral, photographs, animal bones, and handmade objects. Together, these details suggest a connection between Clark and Annie, but they do not prove that he killed her or the scientists. TIME’s explanation of the spiral in Episode 2 discusses the symbol and its significance without resolving Clark’s guilt.

What do Clark’s notes mean?
Clark’s research files contain the unsettling lines “I can hear her moving outside,” “her eyes,” and “Oh god never sleep.” They suggest fear, fixation, or paranoia, but the episode does not explain who “her” is or what Clark believes is happening. The recap raises Annie as a possible referent without confirming it. Treat the notes as clues to the mystery, not as an explanation of his disappearance. The Ringer’s recap leaves their meaning open.
Does Tsalal’s research explain why Clark disappeared?
No. The station’s scientists had spent decades trying to sequence DNA from an extinct microorganism, research that could potentially help address cancer and genetic disorders, according to Sky’s Episode 2 page. That background matters to the season’s wider mystery, but Episode 2 does not connect it directly to Clark’s absence.

Later-season spoiler: what eventually happens to Clark?
Season-finale spoiler: The final shooting script for Episode 6 gives a later answer. Danvers says Clark was found frozen outside Tsalal and died two weeks after the other men. That is a subsequent revelation; it is not what the Episode 2 ending tells viewers. Read the Episode 6 final shooting script.
