Spoilers for the full film and its mid-credits scene. The finale gives Ares Kevin Flynn’s permanence code, allowing him to live in the real world and save Eve. Eve stays at ENCOM and puts the code to work, while Ares sets out to find Sam Flynn and Quorra. Julian Dillinger escapes into a damaged Grid; the mid-credits scene frames his next move with imagery strongly associated with Sark. These are possible directions for a continuation, not confirmation that another film is in production.
What happens at the end of Tron: Ares?
Athena returns to the real world to capture Eve and get the permanence code. In the film’s final confrontation, Athena kills Elisabeth Dillinger when Elisabeth tries to stop Julian’s plan, and Eve is taken. Ares returns with a changed, white-lit appearance after using the code, confronts Athena, and defeats her with Eve’s help: Eve throws him his disc. Ajay’s attack on Dillinger’s servers also ensures Athena’s remaining time runs out. These events are depicted in the film’s ending recap.
Authorities move to arrest Julian, but he escapes into the Grid through the transfer laser. The closing montage shows Eve retaining her role as ENCOM CEO and applying the permanence code to beneficial uses, including crops and cancer-resistant drugs. Ares is now living outside the Grid and looking for Sam and Quorra. Kevin Flynn remains in the original Grid; he gives Ares the code after they talk about music and what it means to be human.
What happens in the mid-credits scene?
The scene returns to Julian in a ruined digital environment. He takes a disc from a plinth, and his appearance begins to evoke Sark, the villain from the original Tron. The visual link suggests a threat or transformation rooted in the franchise’s past, but the scene does not establish that Julian literally becomes Sark or explain what the disc will do.

What does the permanence code change?
Before Ares gets the code, his search for it is tied to the limit on how long he can exist outside the Grid. The ending removes that immediate barrier: he can remain in the real world and pursue a life beyond his original role. Eve’s use of the code points toward a constructive application, while Julian’s escape carries a new danger back into the digital world.
Director Joachim Rønning described the film’s emotional center as Ares learning to be human. In a D23 interview, he said: “The film is about Ares, who ventures out into the ‘real world’ and in many ways wants to become real—and has to learn what it means and what it takes to be human.” The code solves Ares’s practical survival problem; the film’s larger question is what he will do with that freedom.

How does the finale set up the Grid’s future?
The ending leaves two distinct paths open. Ares’s search connects the real world to the people and history associated with Kevin Flynn, while Julian’s escape and Sark-like imagery hint at conflict returning inside the Grid. The mid-credits scene is a continuation hook, not a confirmed plot synopsis for a next installment.
Rønning has spoken about the scene as a hint, not a guarantee. In a GamesRadar+ interview, he said bringing back Sark was “just like hinting [at] something to come” and called Julian “a good starting point” for continuing the character. He also made the prospect conditional: “In this day and age, you never know where you will end up. And if we were to be that lucky, if enough people come watch it…” That is not an announcement that a fourth Tron film has been approved.

What does the ending leave unanswered?
- Where is Sam Flynn? The film leaves his whereabouts unresolved. Ares appears to be looking for him, but the ending does not show Ares finding him.
- What is Quorra’s role in the search? She is included in the apparent search setup, but the ending account does not otherwise explain her status.
- What does Julian’s disc do? The mid-credits scene shows him taking it and acquiring Sark-associated imagery; it does not spell out the disc’s effect or Julian’s exact relationship to Sark.
Where can you watch or rewatch the film?
Disney lists Tron: Ares as directed by Joachim Rønning, rated PG-13, and running 1 hour 59 minutes, with a listed release date of October 10, 2025, on its official film page. Disney announced that the film began streaming on Disney+ on January 7, 2026; availability can vary by country and date, as noted in Disney’s streaming announcement. Disney Japan lists Blu-ray/DVD and 4K UHD/Blu-ray editions for February 18, 2026, on its home-video page.
