His career also included theatre, a substantial body of Australian television work and the role of prison officer Jock Stewart in Prisoner.
Who was the actor in the Yellow Pages Goggomobil ad?
It was Tommy Dysart, an actor whose work ranged from theatre and television to advertising. The 1992 commercial made him especially familiar to Australian audiences: he played a Goggomobil enthusiast using the Yellow Pages directory to call mechanics and find someone who knew the unusual car.
The advertisement’s comic exchange turns on Dysart spelling out “Goggomobil” and clarifying that he does not mean the Dart. Those lines belong to the commercial’s script; they are not verified interview quotations from Dysart.
7NEWS’ report on Dysart and Starts at 60’s obituary both date the advertisement to 1992. The commercial shows a character seeking help with his car; it does not establish that the car was Dysart’s or that viewers today need a particular repair or service.

Jock Stewart in Prisoner
For television audiences, one of Dysart’s notable roles was Jock Stewart, a corrupt prison officer in the Australian series Prisoner. It was a very different kind of performance from the comic advertising character that became his most widely recognized role.
Advertising work beyond Yellow Pages
Dysart also appeared in advertising for Don Smallgoods. Television.AU notes later Shannons insurance advertising among his commercial work. These campaigns formed one strand of a career that also encompassed theatre and screen acting.
