Actor Tom Troupe died at 97 on July 20, 2025, at his home in Beverly Hills, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing his publicist, Harlan Boll. Troupe built a long career across Broadway, regional theater, television and film, moving from a notable early stage role to decades of character appearances on screen.
Broadway debut in The Diary of Anne Frank
Troupe made his Broadway debut in 1957 as Peter van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Internet Broadway Database (IBDB) clarifies that he joined the production as a replacement performer in March 1957 and also understudied the role; he did not originate it in the production’s 1955 opening cast.
That distinction reflects the kind of career record Troupe left: a sustained presence in productions rather than a single defining credit. IBDB also lists Broadway appearances in Same Time, Next Year, Romantic Comedy and The Gin Game.
A career spanning stage, television and film
Stage work
Beyond Broadway, Troupe appeared in stage productions including The Lion in Winter, Father’s Day and The Gin Game. The Los Angeles Times also reports that he worked onstage with his wife, actor Carole Cook, who died in 2023.

What is known about his final years
The Los Angeles Times reported that Troupe died at his Beverly Hills home, citing publicist Harlan Boll. Accounts differ on when he moved to Los Angeles: the Times reports 1958, while CBS News gives 1967. Because those dates conflict, a move year cannot be stated confidently here.
The American Theatre Wing’s 2026 In Memoriam list later included Troupe among the people who worked on Broadway, a further recognition of his connection to the theater community.
