Tom Cruise rappelled from the roof of Stade de France during the Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony on August 11, 2024, as the Olympic flag passed to Los Angeles, the host of the 2028 Summer Games. LA28’s official video of the moment is titled Tom Cruise | LA28 Handover Teaser—not “first Olympic trailer.”
What happened in the Paris 2024 closing ceremony?
The handover segment introduced Los Angeles as the next Summer Games host. NBC Olympics describes Cruise rappelling from the roof of Stade de France as part of the ceremony. The International Olympic Committee’s retrospective confirms the ceremonial transfer of the Olympic flag from Paris to LA28.
LA28 framed the segment as a cultural introduction to Los Angeles, bringing together entertainment, local artists, Olympians and sport. Chairperson Casey Wasserman called it “the biggest moment in LA28 history to date, as the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA.”
Is this LA28’s first Olympic trailer?
The official LA28 video is titled Tom Cruise | LA28 Handover Teaser and was published on August 11, 2024. That title supports calling it a handover teaser or video; it does not establish that it was the first trailer in a broader LA28 campaign.

The short teaser and the live closing-ceremony segment are related, but they are not interchangeable: one is LA28’s published video, while the other is the ceremony moment it accompanied.
Where could viewers watch the handover?
In its August 10, 2024 announcement, LA28 said the Paris Closing Ceremony, including the handover, would be presented live and in primetime on NBC and Peacock. That was the original broadcast plan; it does not confirm where a replay or stream is available now.
