Why the horse was associated with Toby Keith
Keith’s Thoroughbred racing and breeding operation, Dream Walkin’ Farms, was part of Render Judgment’s ownership group. Keith’s official site announced on April 30, 2025, that the horse was set to run in the Derby and described the entry as a dream fulfilled for the operation. Keith’s announcement also quoted remarks he made in 2019: “The derby is the one you want to win. Yeah, that’s the one that everybody wants to hang on their wall, saying ‘I won the Kentucky Derby.’”
Who owned and handled Render Judgment
The Kentucky Derby horse profile lists four owners: Baccari Racing Stable, Dream Walkin Farms, MJM Racing, and Rocket Ship Racing. It names Kenny McPeek as trainer and Emmanuel Esquivel as jockey. The official profile provides those connections; the Derby’s April 25, 2025 leaderboard also lists the ownership group in its contemporaneous entry information: 2025 leaderboard PDF.

What the result does—and does not—tell us
The recorded placing answers how Render Judgment finished, but the cited race and horse records do not establish why the horse finished 17th. They provide no substantiated explanation involving tactics, race trouble, condition, or another cause, so assigning one would be speculation.
