The film’s distinctive claim is that Cojot shared valuable information with Israeli authorities after his release. That claim, and the scale of Cojot’s contribution to the rescue, are presented as filmmaker Dvir’s interpretation rather than an undisputed historical consensus.
What is To Kill a Nazi about?
The documentary follows Michel Cojot as he uncovers the fate of his father, Joseph Goldberg, and pursues Klaus Barbie, the Gestapo commander whose signature appeared on the arrest paper. According to the film’s official synopsis, Cojot traveled to La Paz posing as a journalist and had an opportunity to shoot Barbie but chose not to. The story then turns toward the possibility of redemption.
The film is written, directed, and produced by Boaz Dvir, and narrated by Jason Alexander. Its subject’s story links two episodes that are rarely placed together: a son’s pursuit of the man associated with his father’s arrest, and the hijacking at Entebbe decades later.
What does the film say Cojot did at Entebbe?
Michel Cojot and his 12-year-old son Olivier were aboard Air France Flight 139 when it was hijacked in June 1976. In a June 20, 2026 interview with The Times of Israel, Dvir described Cojot translating for hostages when Uganda’s Idi Amin addressed them, negotiating with the hijackers, and observing the terminal and its surroundings.

Dvir says Cojot passed information to Israeli authorities after his release and that it contributed to Operation Thunderbolt, the raid’s official military title. The documentary argues for Cojot’s importance to the operation. The available reporting does not establish that historians uniformly consider him indispensable or prove that the raid would have failed without his information; readers should distinguish Dvir’s case from a settled consensus.
How does the film connect Barbie and the Entebbe hostage crisis?
The film frames Cojot’s life as a movement from the consequences of Nazi persecution to an encounter with its perpetrator, and then to a crisis in which he was himself among the hostages. The Barbie episode centers on what Cojot learned about his father and the choice he made when he found Barbie. The Entebbe episode centers on survival, observation, and the information Dvir says Cojot later shared.

That connection gives the documentary its title and its particular focus: not only Cojot’s pursuit of Barbie, but also the later possibility of redemption suggested by his experience at Entebbe. The film’s synopsis and Dvir’s interview are the basis for this account; its strongest claims about the intelligence contribution remain attributed to the filmmaker.
What sources does Dvir say he used?
Dvir told The Times of Israel that making the film took a decade. He described drawing on interviews with people featured in the documentary and three sources relating to Cojot: a USC Shoah Foundation interview, an interview in Israel, and Cojot’s testimony at Barbie’s trial. Dvir also said he sought corroboration through primary documents and independent accounts. This is the director’s description of his method, not an independent audit of the film’s complete archive.
