Yes. Timothée Chalamet said making Dune: Part Three was his last time making a Dune film. He was talking about his own role in the series—not announcing that the screen franchise is over. Director Denis Villeneuve has said he will not make another Dune film himself, while leaving open the possibility that another filmmaker could continue it.
What Chalamet said about his final Dune film
At a Variety and CNN town hall with Matthew McConaughey at the University of Texas at Austin, Chalamet reflected on filming the third movie. Variety reported him saying: “Everything was sacred, and it was my last time doing a ‘Dune’ film, so I really wanted to treat it as sacred.” He also said he was more intense on this film. (Variety)
Chalamet also called the movie “the eeriest one” and “a big swing.” He described revisiting an ornithopter sequence and studying its fictional controls to create a dynamic for the scene. These are his descriptions of making the film, not a review of the finished movie.
Does this mean the Dune franchise is ending?
No such announcement follows from Chalamet’s comment. It establishes that he considers this his final Dune film; it does not establish that Warner Bros. will never make another one.

The official film site calls Dune: Part Three the conclusion of Villeneuve’s “epic trilogy.” That describes the arc of his films, not a definitive end to the wider screen franchise. (Official film site)

Descriptions of the time jump differ slightly by source. The film site says “nearly two decades”; in December 2025, Chalamet said he was playing Paul “15, 20 years older,” while the Los Angeles Times described the story as set 17 years after the second film. Those accounts point to a substantial jump in time without making one exact figure universal.
Villeneuve’s description of the film
At the March 2026 trailer event, Villeneuve said the third film would be a thriller: “If the first movie was contemplation — a boy exploring a new world — and the second one is a war movie, this one is a thriller.” (Los Angeles Times)

There are three different claims that can get blurred together: Chalamet says this is his last Dune film; Villeneuve says he will not direct another; and the franchise’s future beyond this trilogy remains open to another filmmaker. Only the first two are statements about the people making the current films. Neither closes off the third possibility.
