TikTok’s Sub Space began as a February 2024 test for subscriber-only conversations around LIVE creators. TikTok later listed it as one of the communication benefits available through its expanded Subscription product, announced on September 23, 2024. It is therefore more accurate to describe Sub Space as a tested feature incorporated into Subscription—not as a universally available standalone product. Access still depends on the creator’s account, region, rollout status and the benefits TikTok makes available.
What is TikTok Sub Space?
Sub Space is a members-only discussion area associated with TikTok’s paid Subscription tools. Reporting on the early test described creator-started discussion threads, suggested or custom topics, polls and subscriber-focused interaction. Creators could use conversations to discuss upcoming LIVE schedules and participate in the text discussion while also appearing on LIVE.
That makes Sub Space a group conversation channel, not a guaranteed private one-to-one messaging service. A subscriber may be able to join a restricted discussion with other paying members, but the feature does not promise a personal reply or a fixed response time from the creator.

The first public screenshots appeared on February 6, 2024, and TikTok confirmed the early test to TechCrunch on February 13. The reported thread and poll functions should be understood as descriptions of that test; TikTok may change the name, controls or layout in later app versions.

From an early test to part of Subscription
The “testing” label is incomplete when applied to the product’s later history. In its September 23, 2024 announcement, TikTok listed Sub Space among the private communication channels that creators could offer through expanded Subscription, alongside chats, comments and messages.
The announcement presented Subscription as an expansion of the earlier LIVE Subscription program. Earlier benefits included subscriber-only chat, badges and custom emotes; TikTok also established subscriber-only videos and LIVEs in its product announcements. The expanded product added a wider menu of possible benefits, including exclusive videos, posts or notes, private communication and custom perks such as shout-outs, Discord roles, performance requests and LIVE topics. Creators could configure up to three subscription tiers.
TikTok said the expanded product was rolling out to eligible creators in selected regions, with further expansion planned. The announcement did not establish that every creator in a named country—or every subscriber—would receive every benefit.

TikTok’s earlier documentation distinguishes subscriber-only chat from the broader Subscription benefits, so the terms should not be treated as interchangeable. Fan Clubs are also separate: TikTok’s support documentation describes them as a LIVE engagement and rewards system, not as Sub Space or paid Subscription.

Who can access Sub Space?
TikTok’s September 2024 announcement said expanded Subscription access required creators to be at least 18, have an account in good standing and meet one of two broad routes: at least 10,000 followers plus 100,000 video views in the previous calendar month, or specific LIVE eligibility requirements. TikTok did not present one universal rule for every market and product edition.
Earlier LIVE Subscription material referred to a lower 1,000-follower threshold. That figure belonged to the earlier LIVE program and should not automatically be presented as the current requirement for expanded Subscription. TikTok’s general LIVE guidance says creators generally need to be 18 or older and have 1,000 followers to go LIVE, although the threshold can vary by region.
Viewers must generally be 18 or older to purchase a subscription and to send or receive Coins and Gifts, subject to regional restrictions. The expanded Subscription rollout was reported in selected markets including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Brazil. Eligibility was for selected creators, not an automatic entitlement for everyone in those countries.

- Open TikTok and enter the creator account’s TikTok Studio or monetization area.
- Look for Subscription; the account may not display a separate menu item called “Sub Space.”
- Check whether the account and region are eligible and which benefits TikTok actually offers.
- Configure the available tier or tiers and select communication benefits such as chats, comments, messages or Sub Space, if shown.
- Tell subscribers what interaction they can realistically expect: posting frequency, moderation rules, LIVE schedule and whether replies will be in text or on camera.
TikTok says the Monetization module in TikTok Studio can show available offerings, personalized recommendations and revenue analytics. Because app labels and paths change, an exact tap-by-tap route cannot be treated as universal. If Subscription is visible but Sub Space is not, TikTok may not have enabled that benefit for the account.

What subscribers should—and should not—expect
A subscription can provide access to a creator’s selected package of benefits, but it is not a contract for personal access. The creator may moderate threads, answer selectively, or schedule conversations around LIVE sessions. A subscriber who paid but cannot see a space should confirm that the subscription is active, that the creator enabled the benefit and that the viewer is using the subscribed account.
Creators should avoid promising one-to-one replies, unlimited availability or permanent access. A smaller channel can feel more intimate, but it also creates expectations for continuity, moderation and safety.
Pricing and creator revenue
The cited TikTok announcement confirms monthly subscriptions and up to three tiers, but it does not publish a single current U.S. price for Subscription or Sub Space. Prices can vary by market, platform, taxes and the creator’s configuration. Readers should rely on the price displayed in the in-app subscription flow rather than an old third-party figure.
TikTok later stated that creators receive 70% after fees, with eligible creators potentially unlocking an additional 20% monthly reward—up to 90% of revenue under the conditions described in that announcement. Those conditions included 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the previous month and at least three subscription-only videos posted in that month. This is a TikTok-stated program arrangement, not a guaranteed current payout for every creator or country; payout rules can change.

Is a Sub Space worth running?
Sub Space is most useful when a creator already has a dependable core audience, recurring questions that benefit from threads or polls, and enough time to participate predictably. It can turn a fast public LIVE chat into a slower feedback loop for programming, schedules and community decisions.
The trade-off is workload. A paid space creates recurring expectations rather than passive income. Moderation, harassment prevention, privacy boundaries and reply schedules all become part of the creator’s job. Exclusivity can deepen loyalty but removes public discovery, while adding another channel beside LIVE chat, comments, direct messages and external communities can fragment attention.
Creators should also consider platform dependence: TikTok controls discovery, payments, moderation and whether a feature remains available. If the audience is too small or inactive, or if the creator already runs a busy Discord or Patreon community, adding another conversation layer may not justify the work.

- The account is outside the current regional rollout.
- The creator does not meet the applicable eligibility or invitation requirements.
- TikTok has changed the product name or app interface.
- The account has Subscription but TikTok has not enabled every possible benefit.
- The viewer’s subscription is inactive, or the creator has not enabled the benefit.
- The app version or account status differs from the one used in earlier reporting.
LIVE and Subscription activity must follow TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Creators should use available comment filters and moderation tools, publish clear rules and avoid promising incentives for gifts.

Alternatives
TikTok subscriber-only chat: A simpler choice when the goal is restricted real-time comments during a LIVE.
TikTok LIVE Fan Club: Better for reminders, missions, points, badges and LIVE-related recognition, but not a substitute for paid Subscription.
YouTube channel memberships: A natural fit for creators whose audience already watches YouTube videos or LIVE streams; see YouTube’s membership documentation.
Patreon: Suited to tiered memberships and a more platform-independent community layer; see Patreon’s membership page.
Discord: Better for persistent text, voice and role-based spaces, with more setup and moderation responsibility; see Discord’s server information.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Sub Space evolved from a 2024 TikTok test into a possible benefit within expanded Subscription. It can be valuable for creators with an engaged core audience and the capacity to moderate an ongoing members-only conversation, but it is not a guaranteed private line to the creator, a replacement for subscriber-only LIVE, or a universally available feature. Check the creator’s TikTok Studio and in-app subscription screen for the current regional offering.
