That means the original headline, “Marvel Reveals Thunderbolts Streaming Date (& It’s Soon),” is no longer accurate as a present-tense update. The useful answer for anyone looking to watch now is simple: open Disney+, search for Thunderbolts*, and check the title’s availability in your regional catalog.
How to watch Thunderbolts* now
- Subscription streaming: Disney+ is the primary subscription-streaming destination confirmed by Marvel for U.S. viewers.
- Digital purchase or rental: The film became available through major digital stores, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, on July 1, 2025.
- Physical ownership: 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions arrived on July 29, 2025.
Digital prices, rental windows, retailer catalogs, and physical-media inventory can change. Check the individual service before paying, particularly if you are outside the United States. Disney+ catalogs are region-dependent, so a title available in the U.S. may appear on a different service—or not be available—in another country.

The release timeline
| Date | Release milestone |
|---|---|
| May 2, 2025 | U.S. theatrical release |
| July 1, 2025 | Digital purchase and rental release |
| July 29, 2025 | 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release |
| August 27, 2025 | Disney+ streaming release |
The progression followed the familiar modern release pattern: theaters first, then paid digital access, then physical media, followed by subscription streaming. The film’s Disney+ date was therefore not a future window even when the original announcement was published; it was the final major stage in a release schedule that has now passed.
Should you stream, rent, or buy it?
Choose Disney+ if you already subscribe
Disney+ is the most straightforward option if you already have a subscription and simply want to watch the film. It avoids a separate rental or purchase, but it does not give you permanent ownership. Streaming availability can also change by territory or over time.
Rent or buy digitally for immediate access without a disc
The digital release began July 1, 2025 on platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. A rental is generally the economical choice for a one-time viewing, while a digital purchase is better suited to viewers who want the title attached to a retailer account. Exact pricing and access terms vary by platform and should be verified at the time of purchase.

Choose physical media for ownership and extras
The physical editions are the better fit for collectors, viewers with a disc library, and anyone who wants access independent of a streaming catalog. Marvel announced 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and a limited-edition 4K SteelBook. The 4K release was promoted with Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, deleted scenes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and director commentary.
Bonus content can vary by edition and retailer, so check the specific product listing rather than assuming every disc package contains every extra. If you are comparing editions, the Thunderbolts* 4K UHD Blu-ray is the premium physical option; the standard Thunderbolts* Blu-ray and Thunderbolts* DVD are more practical for households without a 4K player. The Thunderbolts* SteelBook is aimed primarily at collectors, and availability may be limited.
A 4K disc also requires compatible hardware. To benefit from the advertised Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos presentation, your television, player, receiver or soundbar must support the relevant formats. A regular Blu-ray player or standard television can still make the lower-format editions useful, but it will not reproduce the full 4K setup.
What is Thunderbolts* about?
Thunderbolts* assembles an unconventional group of Marvel antiheroes and operatives for a dangerous mission. The lineup includes Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, John Walker, and newcomer Bob. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine brings the group together, forcing characters with conflicting histories and personalities to operate as a team.

Marvel describes the story as a mission that makes the characters confront their pasts while attempting to function collectively. The film was directed by Jake Schreier. This is a spoiler-free overview; later Marvel discussion may refer to the group as the New Avengers, but the official title remains Thunderbolts*, including the asterisk.

What the asterisk means for the title
The asterisk is part of the official film title and should not be removed when searching for the movie or discussing its release. Marvel’s release materials continue to identify the film as Thunderbolts*. The asterisk also connects with the film’s evolving team identity, but it does not change the Disney+ listing or the release dates above.
Bottom line for viewers
If you want to watch Thunderbolts* now, start with Disney+ in the U.S. If it is not in your regional catalog, check the authorized digital stores for a rental or purchase. For a permanent collection, the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and SteelBook editions were released in July 2025. The August 27, 2025 Disney+ date is worth preserving as part of the film’s release history—but it is no longer a date viewers need to wait for.
