The casserole is a chile cheese egg casserole attributed to Nick Jonas’s mother, Denise Miller-Jonas. A March 4, 2026, Simply Recipes article by Nathan Hutsenpiller, syndicated by AOL, reports that she has made it since Nick was five and that it became a taste of home after he moved out. That family-history detail is the article’s account; it is not presented as direct testimony from Nick or Denise.
Here is the recipe as Hutsenpiller reported it, along with the distinction between his adaptations and the original formulation he describes.
What is Nick Jonas’s favorite casserole?
It is a large chile cheese egg casserole baked in a 9×13-inch dish. The reported version combines eggs, diced green chiles, mozzarella and cheddar, cottage cheese, and mascarpone or heavy cream. Hutsenpiller’s article describes it as a familiar dish from home; its age-five origin is a claim reported by that article, not independently confirmed family testimony.

- 1 stick butter
- 12 whole eggs
- ½ cup flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- Four 4-ounce cans diced green chiles
- 1 pound combined mozzarella and cheddar cheese
- 4 cups cottage cheese

Hutsenpiller says he used heavy cream instead of mascarpone and 12 whole eggs instead of the original formulation he describes as 10 eggs plus two egg whites. Those are the author’s substitutions, not changes attributed to Denise Miller-Jonas. The ingredient amounts above follow the article’s recipe and are not independently tested here.

How to make the casserole
- Heat the oven and melt the butter. Set the oven to 400°F. Place the stick of butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and let it melt in the oven.
- Mix the casserole ingredients. Combine the eggs, flour, baking powder, diced green chiles, cheeses, cottage cheese, mascarpone or heavy cream, salt, and pepper.
- Fill the dish. Pour the mixture into the baking dish with the melted butter.
- Bake at two temperatures. Bake for 15 minutes at 400°F, then lower the oven to 350°F and bake for another 35–40 minutes.
- Check the center. The article’s doneness test is a knife inserted in the center coming out clean. It gives 50–60 minutes as the total cooking time; preparation is listed as 10–15 minutes.
Ways to serve or adapt it
The article suggests bacon, breakfast sausage, or peppers as possible additions. It also mentions jalapeño hot sauce and tater tots as accompaniments. These are suggestions in Hutsenpiller’s article, not components required by the reported ingredient list.
