This guide covers the 1939 MGM film The Wizard of Oz. Judy Garland plays Dorothy, while several of her Oz companions are portrayed by the same actors who play their Kansas counterparts.

Who plays the main characters in The Wizard of Oz?

The film’s central roles are Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, the Wizard, Glinda and the Wicked Witch of the West. The AFI Catalog’s cast record lists the performers and their credited roles; the Library of Congress exhibition also identifies the five principal stars and their signature Oz characters.
