Spoilers ahead. In “Special Treatments,” a resort wellness day offers little relief: old grievances surface, the Ratliff family’s strained boundaries become harder to ignore, and a jewelry-shop robbery brings immediate danger. The episode’s final tsunami story adds menace without confirming what may happen next.
What happens in “Special Treatments”?
The second episode of The White Lotus season 3, titled “Special Treatments,” organizes its stories around a day of treatments and checkups at the resort. The setting promises care, but the characters’ private tensions persist beneath its calm surface. Sky’s episode guide describes past grievances returning at the wellness centre.
Jaclyn, Kate, and Laurie gossip about one another’s careers and personal lives, making their public friendship look less secure in private. The Ratliff family’s massages likewise expose uncomfortable boundaries. Rather than resolving the relationships, the day makes their underlying strains more visible, as recounted by W Magazine and TV Obsessive.
How the episode contrasts care with conflict
Wellness services are not the same as emotional support
The resort provides formal treatments and checkups, but the episode’s relationships remain unsettled. That contrast is a useful way to read the wellness-day premise: the characters can participate in rituals of care without offering one another much understanding.

Friendship in public, criticism in private
Jaclyn, Kate, and Laurie’s gossip complicates the image of an easy, supportive friendship. The episode places their group performance beside the personal judgments they share when talking about one another.
Timothy’s composure meets a professional crisis
Timothy receives troubling news about a business associate’s FBI problems. His outward composure sits uneasily beside the fear accumulating around his family’s circumstances, while Rick’s meditation session connects his anger with an account of childhood loss. TheWrap’s recap details these developments.

Gaitok’s security role and hopes with Mook
Gaitok works in resort security, but his personal hopes involving Mook give that role a more intimate dimension. The episode’s threats test the distance between protecting guests as part of a job and navigating what he wants in his own life.
Why the jewelry-shop robbery changes the mood
The episode’s sharpest burst of physical danger comes when the resort jewelry shop is robbed. Gaitok is attacked, and Chelsea is threatened. The incident breaks through the wellness-day atmosphere and turns the resort’s tensions into an immediate safety problem, according to TheWrap.

What the tsunami story at the end suggests
Lochlan closes the episode by telling his family a story about a tsunami warning. The image gives the gathering’s existing trouble a foreboding shape; it works as foreshadowing within the episode, not proof of a specific future event. TheWrap and TV Obsessive both discuss the closing parallel.
Elsewhere, Belinda notices Greg—now using the name Gary—at the end of dinner, opening a new personal thread. The episode makes that recognition consequential without, on its own, establishing what follows.

Where the Thailand setting fits
The season’s Thailand setting has a real production context, but that context should not be confused with the fictional resort’s location. In a January 9, 2024 announcement, the Tourism Authority of Thailand named Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui as planned filming destinations. Its announcement describes season-level plans; it does not locate every scene or establish that the resort in the story is a real place visitors can book.
