The Wheel of Time has been cancelled after three seasons, so Prime Video’s third season is the show’s last. The cancellation was reported in May 2025; no Season 4 is reported. The business explanation in press coverage points to cost and viewership, but that account was not presented as an official Amazon statement.
Was The Wheel of Time cancelled?
Yes. TheWrap reported the cancellation on May 23, 2025, and Variety reported it on May 25. The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, ended after three released seasons. Neither report announces a fourth season.

Season 3 is therefore the latest and final released season of the television adaptation. Prime Video lists eight episodes for the season; its finale, “He Who Comes With the Dawn,” is dated April 16, 2025 on the platform’s Season 3 page.
Why was it cancelled?
TheWrap reported that Season 3 viewership had slipped and that the series was believed to be too expensive to justify based on its viewing performance. That is the outlet’s account of the business reasoning, not a confirmed official explanation from Amazon or the studios.

An earlier success does not settle the question of how the show performed years later. Amazon’s 2021 Q4 business update said the 2021 premiere ranked No. 1 in Nielsen’s streaming-series rankings for its premiere week, with customers watching more than 1 billion minutes across the first three episodes. That launch-period figure does not measure Season 3’s audience or establish its performance at the time of cancellation. Amazon 2021 Q4 Business and Financial Update.
What does the cancellation mean for viewers?
The TV story stops after Season 3
There is no reported Season 4 to continue the adaptation. The show’s ending is not the same as the novels’ ending: the series adapts Robert Jordan’s high-fantasy books, and cancellation does not mean the source story is unfinished or that the television version reached the books’ conclusion.

The novels are the way to continue with the original story
Readers who want the story in its original form can start with Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World, the first novel in the series. It is a book recommendation, not a continuation of the cancelled television production; the adaptation and books are distinct versions of the story.
A game has been reported, but is not an available substitute
Variety reported that Iwot Studios was developing a Wheel of Time video game, with development expected to take about three years. That report does not establish a current release date, availability, or retail listing, so it should be treated as a project announcement rather than a game viewers can presently turn to.

“Critically acclaimed” is stronger than the available evidence here can establish as a broad critical consensus: no dated aggregate score or systematic set of reviews supports that characterization, and reactions on Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 3 page are not uniform. The cancellation is clear; the acclaim label should not be read as proof that critics agreed or that praise drove the show’s fate.
