Does Maggie find Hershel?
The Croat’s dangerous detour
Maggie searches a church for Hershel and instead finds the Croat, along with what appear to be the Dama’s charred remains. The Croat says Hershel may be at a safe house familiar to him and the Dama. To get there, Maggie must climb a booby-trapped skyscraper and cross a skybridge—a particularly difficult route for her because it heightens her vertigo.
At the hideaway, Maggie realizes the Croat has lied about the purpose of the trip: he brought her there so she could kill him. She considers jumping, but neither she nor the Croat goes over the edge.

A signal at the New York Times building
Later, Maggie sees the signal she and Hershel use coming from a window at the New York Times building. The Croat leaves, and Maggie finds Hershel inside. The reunion is cut short when the Dama, presumed dead after Maggie found the charred remains, appears and strikes her.
What happens to Negan and Ginny?
Negan searches Bellevue for help
Negan learns Bellevue may have antibiotics for Ginny. He leaves Pierce in charge of her and goes to the hospital. While avoiding a child walker, he suffers what appears to be a concussion. He then tackles a hooded figure he believes took the medicine—but the figure is Lucille, played again by Hilarie Burton Morgan, appearing in a vision.

Lucille, Annie, and Joshua appear in a vision
In the vision sequence, Negan tells Lucille that he cared for her through her cancer battle but that it was not enough. Annie and Joshua appear as well. TVLine describes this as an uncanny vision, not a literal reunion with Annie.
Negan returns with equipment—and a threat
Negan makes it back to the church with a ventilator for Ginny. He also says he now understands his mistake at the Sanctuary: showing mercy. He threatens to kill his enemies, setting a new danger in motion alongside Maggie’s discovery.

Is the Dama really alive, or is Maggie dreaming?
The episode leaves the question unresolved. TVLine reports that the Dama appears after Maggie finds Hershel and strikes her, but does not establish whether the encounter is literal or a hallucination. The cliffhanger preserves both possibilities rather than confirming the Dama’s survival.
How does Episode 7 set up the Season 2 finale?
- Maggie and Hershel: Maggie has reached her son, but the Dama’s sudden appearance leaves their reunion—and the Dama’s status—uncertain.
- Negan’s enemies: His declaration that he will kill rather than show mercy points toward a separate confrontation.
Those two unresolved pressures make the episode a direct bridge to the finale: Maggie faces an immediate mystery at the New York Times building, while Negan’s decision threatens to escalate the conflict around him.
