Elsewhere, Negan tries to keep the Dama’s alliance with Bruegel from collapsing—and discovers that Bruegel’s terrifying walker champion is not a walker at all.
Episode details
“Feisty Friendly” is the fourth episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2. AMC lists its original air date as May 25, 2025, its rating as TV-MA, and its official synopsis as: “Maggie uncovers surprising information. Negan attempts to outmaneuver a slippery foe.” Michael E. Satrazemis directed the episode. AMC’s episode listing and Rotten Tomatoes’ episode page provide those credits and details.
Bruegel’s alliance comes with a dangerous performance
The episode’s Manhattan storyline centers on the Dama’s effort to bring Bruegel and his resources into her alliance. Bruegel welcomes the visitors to his base in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, presenting a cultured setting that sits uneasily beside the violence used to maintain his power. His showcase is a walker fight, where a seemingly unstoppable champion battles for the crowd.
The negotiation is already fragile. The Croat’s impatience threatens to wreck the arrangement, so Negan takes on the role of intermediary, managing the competing egos and trying to keep the deal alive. He is not simply carrying out orders: he watches for leverage while performing cooperation with people he cannot safely trust.

Maggie and Negan trade information, not forgiveness
Maggie, Perlie, and Hershel set out to scout the Burazi and find the methane supply. Ginny stays behind, where a conversation with Lucia helps explain her desire for revenge against Negan. On the journey, Maggie and Perlie talk about parenting and the world that existed before the apocalypse. Maggie’s memories of Glenn sit alongside Hershel’s more distant relationship to that lost world: he has his own view of what, if anything, is worth restoring.
Maggie later finds Negan near the cage match. She is looking for information that could help her people leave Manhattan, and he gives her a concrete lead: the methane is at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Then he offers a more unsettling warning: the Dama has gotten to Hershel. Maggie is caught off guard, but their exchange is interrupted before she can fully reckon with what Negan means.

The meeting is a rare pause in their hostility, not a resolution of it. Negan’s information may be useful, but Maggie has every reason to question the motives of the person giving it. The scene’s tension comes from that mismatch: they need to communicate, while trust remains out of reach.
The champion is Tony—and Negan turns the reveal into leverage
The walker fight’s apparent monster is Tony, Bruegel’s former bodyguard, still alive beneath his walker disguise. The reveal turns Bruegel’s staged spectacle into evidence of how he manipulates both his audience and his allies.

Negan uses the secret to pressure Bruegel into dropping an additional demand for methane. The advantage is temporary. Bruegel later kills Tony, removing the person who could expose his deception and leaving himself a dangerous, self-interested partner in the alliance.
What the reunion changes—and what it does not
“Feisty Friendly” puts performance and trust at the center of both storylines. Bruegel’s refined presentation conceals brutality; the Dama uses alliance-making to project authority; and Negan plays the helpful negotiator while keeping leverage for himself. Maggie, meanwhile, must decide what to do with useful information from someone she still distrusts. The episode brings her and Negan into the same conversation again, but it does not settle their history.

The old-world conversation among Maggie, Perlie, and Hershel adds another fault line. For Maggie, memory—especially memory of Glenn—remains personal and immediate. Hershel has grown up in a world shaped by the apocalypse, and he does not necessarily share his mother’s attachment to what came before. That difference matters as the Dama’s influence on him becomes a direct concern.
