Spoilers for “Solaz del Mar,” the Season 3 finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
The Season 3 finale delivers danger and walker action, but it leaves Daryl and Carol’s journey home unresolved. That makes “Solaz del Mar” feel less like a payoff to the season’s central goal than a handoff to the next chapter—even if viewers who enjoy an open-ended hook may see that uncertainty as a strength.
What happens in “Solaz del Mar”?
“Solaz del Mar” is Season 3’s seventh and final episode, released October 19, 2025. AMC listed the US outlets as AMC and AMC+. AMC’s finale promotion and the episode listing identify the finale and its date.
The story setup splits Daryl and Carol’s immediate paths. A pre-finale outline from AS says Daryl and Paz approach the Alcázar, while Carol returns to Solaz del Mar on her own mission. That separation gives the finale parallel strands of tension, but the season’s larger question remains whether the pair can get home.

Why the ending can feel weak
Jeopardy is not the same as resolution
The finale has immediate peril and walker spectacle, but those elements do not automatically settle the story that has carried Daryl and Carol through Spain. Ready Steady Cut’s ending analysis describes the pair as still without their means of making it home. The journey therefore remains open at the point where a season finale might be expected to deliver a decisive change in their prospects.
The character movement is overshadowed by the cliffhanger
The finale’s divided missions create momentum, but the available episode outline establishes their setup rather than a complete scene-by-scene account of what each character learns or changes. The critical case against the ending is consequently about its story shape: danger and action may hold attention without providing a satisfying sense of progress toward the homeward goal. We Have Issues likewise judged the close chaotic and short on satisfying resolution. That is a critic’s assessment, not an objective verdict every viewer must share.

An open ending can also work as a hook
Leaving the route home unresolved can sustain anticipation rather than close it. Viewers who want the Spain story to continue may find the uncertainty effective; those expecting this season to resolve its central destination may instead feel that the finale postpones the payoff. The same unresolved ending supports both readings, depending on whether you value continuation or closure more.

AMC announced The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for an eight-episode fourth and final season, with production in Spain. AMC’s announcement makes the Season 3 ending easier to place: it leaves the homeward story for the show’s final chapter rather than ending the series itself. That continuation gives the cliffhanger a clear function, though it does not make Season 3’s ending feel more complete on its own.
